Hello guys,
I need some help here but I am sure that this is an old and well used question.
I am needing info on what I require to get a 90 day visa.
I am currently on my second, of three, tourist visas but I want to in the future get a retirement/marriage visa.
I believe it is best to do it in Savannakhet.
What papers, costs etc.
Many thanks in advance, Mike
-
You'd probably be better off getting one based on marriage as you don't need to show money in the bank. You need to take copy of wife's ID, house book, marriage cert and your passport. Also take the original marriage cert, your passport and passport photos. You need one for Laos visa and 2 for your non O.
2000 baht for single entry and 5000 baht for multi entry.
-
Many thanks for your reply Starman.
Is it right that I require a 90 day visa before I can apply for a marriage/retirement visa ?
So that involves 2 trips to Laos.
I just need to get my thick celtic head around these visa runs
-
One trip to Laos. Get a 90 day "O" and extend inThailand, at immigration in Kap Cheong, Surin. You can extend, I think, within the last 45 days of your 90 day stay.
-
Many thanks again Starman.
Only 1 more question, sorry
What do I require to get a 90 day visa ( paperwork etc ) and the cost, please

Many thanks for all your help with my problem Starman.
I have decided to get a 90 day visa at Laos but am not sure what documents that I require, so sorry for asking you again.
Will try later to get Non O, marriage, at KC within the 90 days.
I don't want to run out of passport pages too quickly if I have to cross the border every 90 days.
Therefore could you please tell a thick Welshman, like myself, what I require for a 90day non O visa, and what is required for the non O for marriage visa later.
Many thanks, and I hope that you and your family had a good Christmas and New Year
Mike

In Laos:
Copy of marraige certificate (front and back).
Copy of wife's ID card.
Copy of house registration (page with house owner's name and also page with wife's name)
Copy of photo page of your passport.
Take the original of the marriage cert too.
The documents for the extension at KC are extensive. They tend to change requirements often and they also vary from office to office. I would suggest a pre extension trip to KC or to ask your wife to call them.
-
Sorry to a fly in the ointment but you can go from any tourist visa (whatever the duration) to a retirement extension, provided you are over 50 years old.Don't forget the money 800,000baht has to be in the bank in Thailand in an account of your name solely for 2 months before your initial application & for 3 months every year after. If the cash is a problem then don't worry as its still obtainable for a pretty small sum

Starman pretty much has it covered but remember this is for a O multi visa based on marriage good for 12 months, can be extended to 15 months and is only available from the Thai Consulate in Savannkhet Lao. During any of the 90 day stays this visa can be converted over to an extension to stay based on marriage. As Starman suggested pay Kap Choeng Immigration a visit with you wife to get the latest, a phone call will be like hitting your head against the wall

This is a list of documents I provided on December 11th when applying for a one year extension of stay based on marriage at Kap Choeng.
Completed hand written TM7 application form with 4x6 cm photo affixed
Copy of all passport pages
Copy of departure card
Copy of wife's government ID card, with original for viewing.
Copy of wife's house registration book, with original for viewing.
Hand drawn map to residence with co-ordinates of my house
Copy of colourful marriage certificate (Kor Ror 3), with original for viewing.
Copy of marriage registration (Kor Ror 2) not older than 6 months, with original for viewing.
Four pictures of house and family, in bedroom and living room and outside showing house number
Original bank letter affirming over 400K THB on deposit
Copy of Bankbook all pages with originals for viewing.
I had two copies of all of the above but the girl who initially processes the documents stamped one copy and I and missus had to sign each document as appropriate. The secong unstamped copy was returned to me.
Then the missus had to photocopy the whole stamped & signed copy. Presumably this was so the girl dealing with my application didn't have to stamp BOTH copies that I originally submitted.
My docs were processed , I paid the 1900 baht fee and was given an "under consideration" stamp and told to return in 30 days. I was also told that I would get a home visit to establish that my marriage was genuine.
This is not my first marriage extension and the reason they were visiting me was because the basis of the extension was changing from retirement to marriage. When they visited us, the officers wanted to interview the Puyai Ban & his helper, who had to provide copies of their ID cards & House books, as well as signing docs verifying our marriage. The two guys who visited us were very professional & friendly and it was quite painless.
I reckon Starman & gotlost's advice is spot on to have a pre-application visit and get the requirements from the horse's mouth, especially if it is your first marriage extension.

Sound list and advice . Another reason to visit KCI is KCI has 3 forums that are in Thai and your wife must fill out. These forums are used at all other immigration office for marriage extension. These forums can not be downloaded. If you ask for them they will give you a set to take home and you can help your wife with the info at your leisure.

Yes, I forgot to mention the extra docs they gave me whilst I was there for my missus to complete.

Many thanks to all for the constructive information that you provided for me, it is going to help a lot.
Many thanks too to nookie for the offer, but what makes you think that I am over 50 ? ::). The wife and I will have to come and visit your shop (?) one day and take away some good old farang products.
Many thanks once again to all for the valuable information

Best day to come to Nookie's is Sunday afternoon...you can have a few beers, put the world right & enjoy some friendly banter with the regulars, of which I am one....be sure to wear a thick skin.....
-
ok nookie, so I cannot read or remember what I wrote! it must be my age. You got me on that one
Thanks mxyzptlk, I do hope to venture down nookies place some time in the near future, and of course I will wear my thickest skin if I can find it.
Many thanks to all once again but still can't make up my mind which is the best route, and I am going next Monday !!

Mike nookie has brought up a point. You say your on a tourist visa. If you are Kap Choeng Immigration may still be converting over to an Single entry O-visa to start your extensen for retirement. Call them tomorrow to find out. Pattaya, Hua Hun, Phuket and Chiang Mai have been striped of that authority but have heard nothing about Region 4 which KCI is part of. If so this could save you a trip if you wanted to go retirement.
-
GL you are incorrect regarding Pattaya............What they cannot do anymore is to change the VOA to a retirement extension...........No problem converting a Tourist Visa to a retirement extension.

Sorry to piss on your business but no you can not LEGALY. All conversation either 30 day visa exempt or 60 day tourist Visa HAVE to go to Bangkok for conversion.

Thanks once again especially "gotlost".
I think a run for the wife and myself to Savvanahket next Monday is on the cards still.
Afew more beers between now and then might clear my head as in what direction to take.
I think 90 day in Laos and then apply later in KCI for non O based on marriage, if it is possible.
Hope to meet you all one day down in nookies place or around the Buriram area
Thanks, Mike party4

Sounds like a plane.
For general info. I just confirmed with Kap Choeng Immigration that they still do a conversion from a 30 day visa exempt or a 60 day tourist visa over to a single entry 90 day O visa which is the first part for regiment. A conversion for marriage has to be sent to Bangkok.
Mike if you have a single entry O visa (90 days) after 45 days you can apply for your marriage extension at Kap Choeng Immigration.
