I have a marriage visa that expires in March of 2014
I'm taking a trip to the states this November and plan to return for my ninety day check in January 2014. What sort of paper work am I going to need to properly leave Thailand and return.

If you are on an extension of stay:
You need to go to Immigration and get a re entry permit first.
I think only form 1000baht(for single) and a passport photo.
You do not need to return for a 90 day check as the time will start again when you re enter.

Starman is correct. 1000 baht for a single or 3800 baht for a multi. The clock stops on your 90 day report when you leave and is reset for 90 days when you return. This only applies for extensions to stay not an O multi where your doing a border hop every 90 days.

Thanks for the info.
If I get a multiple entry visa, does it expire when I renew my extended stay visa or does it carry over to next year.

Your getting your wording mixed up. Are you asking about a multi reentry permit? There is no such thing as an extended stay visa. What kind of extension are you on ? What is in your passport? Are you on an O-multy where you have to a border hop every 90 days or are you on an extension to stay issued at immigration? Renentry permits are only good till the expiration of an extension.
