Nice to see a good news story.

Where's the good old days when Buriram expats had a boat and actually competed in this race? Those days are over it seems.
More bananadance punk redman thumbup
and less slapfight swordfight buttslap boxingguy
would be nice.

TBWG, How is the water level this year? winkboy

Hi
The water is at least 3 meters lower this year and not flowing very fast. I think last year was exceptionally high and not the norm.
As for Buriram expats boat race team, I think JimNasium is probably referring to the 2 farang teams a couple of years back, the driving force behind this was fun smile who is currently in Copenhagen, it consisted of a team sponsored by Muenfun Resort and another by the floating restaurant on Mun river.
Think the novelty of watching farangs make twats of themselves has now worn off with the locals, but proud to say the team I was in still holds the record for sinking the most times (3)!
Will post some pics later. character4
Must say I think the event will be good this year and they are ramping up already, had a Carabao concert last night so it could be worth a visit!

Will post some pics later ~~~~~~~~~~~
Would appear that it was 2007 & 2008 when the magnificent farang teams entertained the locals!
2007 involved the capsizing 3 times for 2008 we had our own handcrafted bespoke speedster which ran higher in the water, hence no sinking that year, much to the dismay of the locals!
pics herewith~~~~

PS As can be seen in the first pic the finishing line is a long way off, down by the bridge in the distance, and the bank of the river is swarming with thousands of adoring spectators urging us on with cries in Thai of what I imagine was look at those farang twats!

Looking forward to going to the boat race this year.
It will be my first time at the boat race so hopefully it will be a good day out with the family.

Unfortunately clashes with local elections, and having received 300bt from each of the 2 candidates to vote for them, my family will remain in the village and use their vote one way or the other.

Toffo
The whole thing kicks off early in Satuk with an Elephant parade through town at about 8am Saturday morning. The boat races then go on all weekend with the climax on Sunday late afternoon.
There are pop concerts each evening and various OTOP stalls etc etc to give you some idea the town doubles in size over the weekend to 20,000 so the place is really alive!
Saturday morning also has the elephants swimming across the river with farangs (I have put your name down) so don't forget your waterwings!
Usual grub stalls, temporary beer gardens ete etc!
Enjoy! wildman thumbup

Maybe they did in your time Nookie, but when I went there I don't think Butlins had even started up! Bognor Butlins opened in 1960
I was in Nong Khai 10 days ago, and they had their annual boat racing festival, which I watched for a while.

As I said at the outset I was only a kid when I went to Bognor. probably 7/8. The mankini would look more appropriate on Nookie!
