10 killed, 24 hurt in bus crash
Ten people were killed and 24 others injured  when an interprovincial passenger bus travelling from Bangkok to Si Sa  Ket crashed head-on with an 18-wheel truck in Surin’s Sangkha district  early Wednesday morning, police said.

Pol Capt Pavaves Krawenkij, an investigator at Sangkha district of  Surin province, said the accident happened about 3.45am on the  Chokechai-Dejudom highway near the kilometre 13 marker in Sangkha's  tambon Sakad.

Four of those killed were men and six women. The  injured people, seven in critical condition, were taken to hospitals in  Sangkha, Lamduan, and Prasart districts and Surin hospital, the police  officer said.

Pradit Sophanawej, the bus driver, and Tawan  Pannao, the driver of the 18-wheel truck,  died in the crash, Pol Capt  Pavaves said.

The accident blocked the highway for more than two hours. Police were investigating the cause of the fatal accident.

In Chanthaburi's Muang district, a three-car accident this morning killed one person and injured two others.

Chanthaburi  police said a car crashed into a pickup truck that was making a U-turn.  Another pickup failed to dodge the crashed vehicles and slammed into  the back of the car.

A 56-year-old woman fell from the back of the second pickup. Her head hit the road and she died on the spot, police said.

The two pickup drivers sustained minor injuries in the accident.

On  Feb 10, eight Cambodians were killed and three others injured when a  passenger van they were in slammed into the back of a parked six-wheel  truck near the 59-kilometre marker on Kanchanaphisek ringroad in the On  Nut area.

On Jan 13, another passenger van ran into a 10-wheel truck on Rama II road, injuring 14 people.

On  Jan 6, a packed passenger van bound for Chachoengsao ran into the rear  of an 18-wheel truck on the motorway, killing six people.

When you buy your ticket on the bus from Savannakhet to Pakse in Laos, they give you a handout saying how much you're insured for .  Might be a good idea for Thai buses, too.
