Newin's cup set to runneth over

A lot of our wealthier citizens jet off to foreign lands for the holiday season, but occasional politician Newin Chidchob is staying right where he is in Northeast Thailand, thanks very much.
No, he's not barred from leaving the country for being a wise guy. He's staying because his football club, Buri Ram PEA, has secured the Thai Premier League championship with four matches still to be played in the tournament.
And Newin is due a raucous round of applause when the squad host arch rivals Muangthong United at I-Mobile Stadium on December 31. All 20,000 seats have been grabbed.
Undoubtedly the highlight of the meeting, regardless of the score, will be the presentation of the Premier League trophy to the Buri Ram players, as Newin managed to arrange in advance.
In doing so, Newin also managed to sell out every room in every hotel in the province. That's why they call him "influential" - not because of that other stuff about deciding who gets to be prime minister.
So why would he want to be anywhere else on New Year's Eve?
Dress code? Hah!
Actress-model Morakot "Amy" Kittisara launched her own clothing line at a shop on Siam Square Soi 2 on Saturday. Lots of guys will be window-shopping there, if you catch our drift.
Amy is, of course, the former Miss Thailand World whose choice of outfit for the 2004 Subhannahongsa Awards fogged up all the camera lenses and still earned global "exposure", as it were.
Lads' magazines like FHM have made her a staple - often right through her belly button in the centrefold - and Amy's remained a staple of controversy in the meantime.
But women love to be sexy, and damn the prudes' torpedoes, so the Amy shop is expected to do well.
"It was my childhood dream to be a fashion designer," she says. It would be fun to imagine her scissoring great gaps through all the clothes, but in fact she's most keen about designing the patterns herself!
