Next week I am travelling from Ayutthaya to Non Din Daeng and google maps offers me two solutions which are about the same in distance and time.
One taking the 33 past Kabin Buri and Sa Kaeo and the other the 2 and the 24 past Pak Chong, Pak Thong.
The question is quite simple - which is the best route to take.
My criteria is basically a safety one, so I would prefer to take a route that has most dual carriage ways where the on coming traffic is separated.
Thanks
Mike

I would choose this route: The 2 and the 24 past Pak Chong, Pak Thong.

Having used both routes ,the roads are both pretty good ,bearing in mind as to your destination ,the 33 is the one for me,you are knocking off around 75kms too

Nookie, Isn't that road is a 1 lane road only?
I hate the road on the Sa Kaeo/Aranyaprathet line.

Its not a dual carriageway but a wide road overtaking no problem

Thanks guys for the replies, I haven't fully decided which way to go yet but I am now leaning towards the 2/24 route as I have never been that way before.
I have experienced the "wide" 33, 4 a breast, several times before when coming up from Bangkok and Rayong - mostly with a half a sleep mini bus driver :) but sometimes with me in control wildman
Incidently google maps has the difference to be just 11 kilometres for the two routes for me and a difference of just 6 minutes.
If I do take the 2/24 I'll let you know how I compare the two routes.

Mike ,I actually live on the 24 ,20 kms before Nang Rong & If I was coming from where you are I certainly wouldnt be coming along the 24 to get to your destination.I cant believe the difference in distances & time......Just being curious what sort of speed do you plan to travel at??
-
I came up from Bangkok on 2/24 Saturday, there was a bottleneck on 2 near Saraburi (a few KMs from the Makro) where construction had 6 lanes going to 2 lanes, took about 1.5 hours to get through it.
But then traffic was fairly heavy with Thai's trying to get home for the election.
I like to take 304 up to 24, just have to get past the two lane going up and down the mountain.

Nookie,
This is the link to Google maps which shows both routes and the differences between them - this is door to door more or less exactly.
maps.google.fr/maps?saddr=Route+inconnue&daddr=14.758705,102.03814+to:Route%C2%A02120&hl=fr&ie=UTF8&ll=14.368173,101.983337&spn=1.34095,2.694397&sll=14.332584,102.782936&sspn=0.083824,0.1684&geocode=Fd4Y2wAdz2D_BQ%3BFTEz4QAdfPoUBil54Lsv46oeMTGhykyYz2kEEw%3BFYAN2wAdSBkgBg&mra=dme&mrsp=1&sz=13&z=9&via=1
Regarding speed - difficult one to answer. I would say that I will not dawdle around, but I am not stupid when I drive. Curious as to why you think that this is relevant?

Link only showed one route - here are the two links showing both routes

Mike,
I'm telling you from persnal experience,,,,you can waffle on all you like about Google.......Best of Luck
-
Well, I took the plungle and went via the 2/24 and I must say I was pleasantly surprised at how good the route was, either 2, 3 or 4 lane separated carriage way all the way to Nang Rong (more or less), with very little traffic and no blocks for Roadworks (there were some were Urleft said but no slow down).
Thanks for all of your advice.
