I realize this is a touchy question, and many will prefer not to answer, MY QUESTION IS HOW DO YOU DERIVE MONEY TO LIVE OFF WHILE IN THAILAND , are most of you in the share market and getting dividends, do you have a business , was it easy to set up, what complications if any , many of you have said that you have built a house for yourself and wife , from what i have read you cannot own real estate , so is the house in one name only , are many on a pension and money comes from what ever country , do you have all your money in the bank , i read that Thai banks , dont pay much , any way your thoughts would be appreciated, thank you for you time

You will need to put some higher bands in there :)

Very interesting questions you have.
I'm taking it few steps further and I have added a Poll:
'How much is your Income/Pension per month for living in Thailand?'
Please Vote! icon_heart
*Can't see the name of the person who vote for which option.

I live by the rule, "do not put more money into living in Thailand than you can afford to loose".

There is a whole thread on Thai Visa about 'loose' and "LOSE". Perhaps it is an American thing Keith ! swordfight
Agree entirely about not putting in more money into Thailand than you are prepared to leave in Thailand.
-
I doubt very much that there will be many if any takers on your poll as most of us not willing to indicate to unknown parties 'personal information'

Part of the problem is that we can fit multiple choices. For example, I have rental income due in, but I am mainly planning on savings. However, I have a pension happening in 4 years, another in 6 years, and more savings available in 4 years. So there is no 1 answer.

fORWARD PLANNING THAT FAR AHEAD CAN BE DANGEROUS,,,,,,,,,,

Not to me, I have been F'd over by the best of them. Decided to live by a few important rules:
1. Better to have love and lost, than never have loved at all.
2. Do not put more money into a relationship than you can afford to lose.
3. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.
4. There is no fool like an old fool.
5. Live for today, because tomorrow may never come ( 3 tours in Iraq and 1 in Afganistan reinforce this).
6. Do not pass up a opportunity for a Hug, kiss, and gesture.
7. Everyone have to believe in something, I believe I will have have another beer.

Not really forward planning Nookie. I imagine the savings and pensions are already in the system. What is dangerous is anticipating what they will be worth when they are available - especially with Thailand exchange rates.
I was hoping to get 70bt/£ when my pension started, but alas it was 30% less than that and still is!

If you are in business in Thailand it is just as likely that it will detract from your monthly income rather than add to it. :)

There speaks the voice of experience!

Just because it sounds right, I vote
"I'm broke, dude."
but everything is relative. Some people have a terrible life even though they have a large disposable income or a meagre one. I am very happy with my life
even though I am the poorest, I have ever been. I would not change a thing, I have a great time here in Thailand.

That's the mid 50's crisis Dave.
If you can survive things will get better financially. I went through it and survived. Never thought about returning home - probably couldn't have afforded the airfare at the time!

Thank you for the words of encouragement Nick. oldmanwithstick
I am enjoying this crisis! love1

Keep Voting! :) Great idea for a poll and I hope more people will vote than we can get a better picture on our community here in the area of Buriram/Surin.
