There are several ways now to book and pay for Nackornchai Air bus tickets.
I would imagine if you have someone in Thailand book and pay for it on your behalf then there would be no problem.
"google" nca.th.

Book a train if you can. As mrjay says you may be able to find a taxi, but I doubt it somehow - not at that price. And besides the taxi driver would not be packed for his annual visit to the family.
There is a flight to Satuk (Buriram). Not sure what airline and what days it operates, but would be cheaper than a taxi.

Nok Air fly to Buriram, but only twice a week. Due to your arrival time the first available flight would be 15th April.
Try the bus as Starman suggests

Train is the way to go,the roads are diabolical that time of year.

By Bus:
Nakhon Chai Air bus company:
http://www.nca.co.th/index.php (http://www.nca.co.th/index.php)
*Booking ticket from oversea is impossible, get your girlfriend/wife or one of her family members to BUY(PAY) tickets for you on your name and get a CODE of the booking ticket and you will have to show id card/passpot +COPY and sign on it than they will stamp on it, you will have to show it on the bus, you can even choose seats beforehand when paying for the ticket.
Taxi Meter:
Everywhere in Bangkok; anywhere between 3000-4500 Baht.
Train:

Flight:
http://nokair.com/NokConnext/aspx/Welcome.aspx (http://nokair.com/NokConnext/aspx/Welcome.aspx)

Have to agree ,,,only a little over 5 hours...it'll take a lot longer by road!!!
BUT if you haven't pre booked forget it!!

I personally cannot fault Nakorn Chai Air buses. Especially since they moved to their own bus station in Bangkok. But each and to their own.
With regards to the traffic situation. The 11th of April is a Monday. Songkran starts on the Wednesday. Unless the Government announce and extended holiday, ie starting on the 11th, then I would suggest that travelling on the evening of the 10th or morning of the 11th would be OK.

It is likely that many businesses will close for the whole week, and that Friday 8th, Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th will see the main exodus from Bangkok.

...I have no way of pre booking a tkt. Someone has said I'll never get a train on the day just turnin up. (on morning of Monday 11th April)...I did ask the owner of the place I stay at to send me a ticket by post, which he said he did...Ive been waitin 2 weeks now since he said he posted it, is that too long for a letter to arrive??He is very trustworthy, but I dont know about the Thai postal system?
....seems a taxi is my only real , (but expensive) option??
-
That is too long, letters get back to England in a shorter time.
I'd go NCA VIP bus, if I was u

Who is to say that the beloved NCA {that everyone slobbers over} won't be booked solid as well on those days...?? Take a bladdy taxi - quick and a decent value.
