The villagers were not deceived, just GREED got the better of them.

No matter how many times you say it, if something seems to good to be true then it is! now it's come back and bit them in the a**e and they don't like it. 

Just another Ponzi scheme ... the difference here is that the dumb teacher perpetrators are still around to get the grief! whistle

what is special in the story hearing they really believed there is such an investment like this,
good god what they were thinking? pity really but at least they have learnt the lesson even if in the hard way.
