There is indeed no such thing as a Thai flamingo; I wonder what they mean! Also 20 sq. m. sounds very small for breeding a large colonial bird, as flamingos are... do they really know what they're doing. I wait with bated breath for the next instalment!

I won't be changing my connection for the foreseeable future, so you'll have a long wait! Surely somebody else knows what a flamingo looks like?
The text is uninformative. But if you give me the Thai name of the bird in the original, I might be able to work it out.

นกกระเรียนพันธุ์ไทย (Thai flamingo species).

Thanks, Admin, for all the effort you've put into checking this. My Thai is nowhere as good as yours! My Thai-English dictionary gives นกชนิด for flamingo, the same words being used for storks. Boonsong and Round, Birds of Thailand has a Thai index, but does not list nok krarian . Nor does the video picture the birds. Since flamingos do not occur naturally in Thailand, either it refers to flamingos taken from another bird collection (in which case they should not be released into the wild), or is a fancy name for another species. The best guess I can give is the Painted Stork, which does at least have some pink on it!

Hi
I have viewed the video and they are not Flamingos, In my opinion they are some sort of Crane. They stand about 1 - 1.2 meter tall are light grey in colour with a dark reddish head, the red extends about 6 - 8 inches down the neck and stops abruptly.
Have had a look in my Birds of Thailand book but no luck in identifying, maybe Isaan Birder has some ideas?

Sounds like the Sarus Crane, which formerly occurred in Thailand, and still breeds in Myanmar, and down through Indochina. It is a fairly common bird in wildfowl parks, and other captive bird collections.

One just wonders how the authorities concerned will manage to give it the right conditions!
