Title: Buriram airport
Post by: stevedarke on September 16, 2010, 12:42:21 PM
Hi, I am a British aviation historian specialising in Thai aviation history. I have a book due to be published in early 2011 detailing the development of civil aviation in Thailand since 1945.

One detail which is escaping me is the date on which Buriram airport opened.  The earliest service I can find is THAI Airways from January 1997.

Would you any of your members know when the airport opened? I would be very grateful!

as thats the sort of thing he would know about living nearby to the place. I was under the impression that the Yank Military built it a lot longer ago than 1997.

You may well be correct but the runway seems very short compared to the other US built airstrips

5th December 1996 sounds right. THAI started to operate on 27th January 1997.
