Post by: TBWG on April 28, 2010, 08:55:54 PM
Hi Bums

Anyone heard any rumour's that an additional operator is to serve Buriram from Don Muang airport? confused1

Supposedly Happy Air a Phuket based Saab 340 operator is starting ops 15th May every Thursday and Saturday same timing as Nok Air.

Time will tell.

I should have looked at the flight timetables it has:

HAT 2215  Don Mueang International Airport  Buri Ram   11:00   12:00   THU   SAT
HAT 2216  Buri Ram  Don Mueang International Airport   12:30   13:30   THU   SAT

About the same, except for my middle leg, charge by the pound there, very expensive.  jumping8

BTW, it's 1450 Baht, then they add another 6-700 baht in fees.

After taking a look at their flight schedules ,there is no way they could have operated the said schedule in the first place.....................remember their 'so called' base is in Phuket

If the airport is not recogised by IATA as an approved airport OR an approved diversionary airfield then you'll never find them on any simulator game

It wasn't too long ago that the greater Buriram-Surin region was served rightly, as many domestic 'mid-markets' around Thailand were. The smaller domestic carriers were numerous and healthy. As we all have witnessed, the market, country-wide, is diminishing. One can easily see that the smaller market and their respective routes were cut out of the loop completely......due to the economy or just bad business practices.

It wasn't so many years ago when the only 2 domestic carriers were 'Thai'& 'Bangkok Airways'.....

This is true to a point, as there has been easily {at least} 2 dozen domestic carriers that have come and gone over the years. I recall when Bangkok Airways got there start-up, using Sukhothai as their 'hub', flying only a couple times a day between CMX-BKK with a Sukhothai stopover....and their twice daily service to phuket. As they expanded, there was rumours of struggles - as to be expected in this market that the authorities favour the flagship carrier, Thai Airways, where no other airline could use similar/competing routing points. Ever notice, that most carriers did not have permission to schedule flights in/out of the mid-market locales? They were forced to serve more obscure locales - Thai Airways and the Thai Transportation Commission are tied together like family. In the last decade, as Thai Airways has had it well-publicized problems, they dramatically cut back service routes to traditional mid-markets. In come the start-up to serve this needed market: Nok Air, Asia Air, PB Air, and other assorted mid-range carriers. All operating, of course, with the understanding that Thai domestic has first choice.....you'll also find that quite a number of domestic airlines that operated over the years were just subsidies of Thai Airways.....it's always been very political here.
