Chandhok announced as HRT driver
Karun ChandhokKarun Chandhok has been confirmed at the new HRT Formula 1 team, ahead of its official presentation in Spain today.
Chandhok will be presented to the public at the Murcia unveiling, which is set to confirm the team's new identity and its plans for 2010.
Colin Kolles, HRT's team principal, said: "I am very pleased to use the Murcia site to officially unveil our car livery today. We also complete the driver's team line-up with the Indian Karun Chandhok at the wheel of the car for our first ever season.
"We have been very impressed with Karun's performance in GP2. India is a great country. It will be great for the sport to have an Indian driver on the grid for the first Indian Grand Prix. Murcia is part of the roots of the team.
"Everything is now in place after an impossible race against time to register the team's name and I truly believe that we have an excellent platform to build on and move forward for a strong 2010 performance. Now, we need to work together. We need to learn together and keep developing as a team."
Jose Ramon Carabantes, the team chairman, added: "The new HRT F1 Team, Hispania Racing F1 Team is born in Murcia. I am proud to welcome you in Murcia where the team has its roots and to have given to my country the pride of the first ever Spanish Formula 1 team.
"The name of the team contains the word Hispania, which is not only the name of one of my companies, but Hispania was also the Roman name for the Iberian Peninsula. That reflects now our team's new identity. 2010 will be a major debut for the team and drivers at the wheel of our HRT F1 Team car."
Keep taking the tablets! hahaha

Hi Bums
Well as the forum F1 pundit I would like to give all of you the benefit of my extremely limited and biased F1 knowledge. hahaha
However I should admit that I unashamedly support Brit Drivers plus The Williams Team and my first love Lotus, I go back to the Hill/Clarke days when racing drivers were real men and sported dashing moustaches confused4 Well Graham Hill anyway!
But first of all credit where credit is due... I watched the coverage at Paddy's Irish bar and was astounded to see BBC coverage with Brundle et al commentating. However, even he could not liven up this boring sporting spectactular. How can you spend billions of dollars and end up with such a mediocre event.. ah well spose most of it goes in Bernies Bin!
I am pleased to say that so far my predictions have been spot on ... I have gone on record somewhere saying that Vettel will be 2010 World Champ (reliability issues permitting) so fairly accurate there!
Well I won't bother to review the race as I might drop off, but a question for all you quiz fiends ... Has there ever been a Thai F1 driver and if so what was his/her name. Prize a bunch of bananas for first correct entry.
To show just how seriously I take my role as Buriram Expats F1 bore, I am just about to start packing to go to Melbourne to cover the race in depth... Admin can you arrange Press Accreditation for me?
This is a rather expensive procedure and the cost is borne 100% by me, so should you wish to leave the odd thousand baht note behind the bar at Paddys I will put it to good use ~~~~ failing that you could always front up for a bottle of Archa! biggrinbar

Hi Bums
Wait no longer here is the GP report you have all been waiting for.............................Well I had better get it out before Malaysia tomorrow, that should be a goody!
Well I am finally back from my trip to the Australian GP and hope to provide you with in depth coverage of all the action. However, firstly when I arrived at the GP press office and demanded my Buriram Expats accreditation pack I was told " Pom, go pee up a rope" it transpires that we had not paid the registration fee of US$25,000 in used notes! I argued that this was tantamount to blackmail and demanded to report this disgraceful situation to Mr Ecclestone. Only to be told that said dosh should be put in a plain brown envelope addressed to Mr B Ecclestone! So I doubt I would get much sympathy there!
So I excused myself with as much dignity as I could muster and adjourned to the grandstand. On the way I made a purchase of a can of Boag's Best beer .... A$ 6.50 yup A$ 6.50 now for us economically challenged Brits that's 4 quid a can! not even a pint! Being a cheap Charlie used to drinking Archa at 35 baht a large bottle, the chances of me getting pissed on this jolly was exceedingly slim. angrybar
First of all a bit of background about Melbourne, I stayed in the CBD (city business district) nice wide roads (ideal for doing donuts and burn outs in the Merc) well organised tram system and compliant pedestrians who to the man obey the crossing signals. So I arrived mid-dayish and was staggered by all the places to eat in fact almost every shop was a restaurant, bistro or coffee house so I was salivating at the choice and planning my evening meals should I not get an invite to the GP ball or be entertained by any of the teams!
Imagine my surprise when after being left off the GP ball guest list due to some admin blunder I went to the CBD to have a bite to eat only to find that all of the eating places closed at 5.00 pm when the office workers go home! So my first meal in Oz a burger in Nando's!
Well back to the cars, lot's of supporting races with the V8 saloons being the Aussie's favourites, only 2 makes Ford or Holden with the country split 50/50 with bitter rivalry, but we are here for the big boys F1!
Now everyone covers the big boys so I will start at the a**e end of the grid with the newcomers.... Virgin Racing, Lotus and HRT (can you believe that name) Given their lack of lead time and the fact that they had no choice but to use the least powerful engine on the grid I feel they have made a sterling effort, the cars all look the part but have been let down by hydraulic gear selection problems in the X-trac gearboxes which are bought in components. Lotus are the team to beat in this group I think mainly due to the fact they have 2 established race winning drivers in the team and did not need to employ pay drivers.
Over the entire GP duration the weather was very changeable, rain, sun, wind, hot & cold in fact I learnt this is typical Melbourne weather, a bummer for a travelling light tourist but great for spicing up the racing and thanks too the late start rain conveniently arrived during some sessions
This leads to a some of the new boys doing a lot of rally crossing and "Kamikaze" Kobayashi trashing a couple of nose wings on what I think is the best looking car on the grid i.e. the Ferrari engined BMW Sauber (go figure that out).
By now all the Aussies are in a state of near bliss as home boy Mark Webber qualifies on the front row and they are all convinced its a done deal and he has a win in the bag!

Well after a days racing a good meal is required, so I have now located Lygon street which is were all the restaurants are situated, it is also known as "Little Italy" and things there are a bit subdued as they can't quite make out if their glass is half empty or half full. I sympathise as a Brit things could be better (we are in the half empty category). But what the hell I'll have a Thai meal and the lamb massaman curry hits the spot!
By now we all know what happened next ............ Rain arrives dead on time at 5.00pm Saturday start time. Alonso does a pirouette right in front of yours truly and gets away dead last even after the chase car! Must admit I am not a fan of "The Brat" but he did well to recover to 4th, Kamikaze took flying lessons over the top of Hulkenberg, Hamilton was sacrificed for a look at his tyres to Buttons benefit. Vettel conveniently parked it after disappearing into the distance and Kubica surprised everyone by bringing it home 2nd. Home boy Webber converted his win into an 8th place. Button did the business for a GB win, greatbritainflag I did not do too much cheering for fear of getting a fat lip from irate Aussie's but sod the expense I did sink a few beers.

For all of those who have been suffering sleepless nights since 21 March:
http://www.grandprix.com/gpe/drv-birpri.html (http://www.grandprix.com/gpe/drv-birpri.html)
DRIVERS: PRINCE BIRA
Name: Prince Bira
Nationality: Siam
Date of birth: July 15, 1914 - Bangkok
Date of death: December 23, 1985 - London
Prince Birabongse Bhanutej Bhanubandh was a member of Siam's royal family and was a grandson of King Mongkut, who opened the country to Western influence in the late 19th century and was made famous by the musical comedy, "The King and I". As a result the Siamese royal family became closely linked with Britain and in 1927 - at the age of 13 - Prince Bira was sent from Siam to attend the most famous of all British public schools - Eton College. While he was there there was a revolution in Siam and after considerable disruption including several coups d'etat and other conspiracies King Prajadhipok - the Prince's uncle - was forced to abdicate. Prince Bira decided to stay in England and went on to study at Cambridge University. Another Siamese Prince - Bira's cousin, Prince Chula Chakrabongse, ran a racing team called White Mouse Racing and the 21-year-old Bira thought he might try his hand at motor racing.
In 1936 Chula's White Mouse team purchased an ERA for Bira to drive and he quickly became one of the leading exponents of this voiturette class of international racing, winning the Coup de Prince Rainier at Monte Carlo. He proved consistently successful up to the war. At the same time he met and married an Englishwoman. When war broke out Thailand (as Siam had become in 1939) was occupied by the Japanese army and so Bira decided to stay in Britain, living quietly in a cottage in Cornwall. When the war was over the 31-year-old Prince decided to reestablish White Mouse Racing. There was little motor racing in England in the immediate postwar years and he eventually closed the team and went to race in Europe driving a Maserati for Enrique Plate's private team. He briefly joined the HWM team, then Gordini and OSCA, but by 1953 he was driving his own 2-liter Maserati AC which he painted in the distinctive blue and yellow livery which were Thailand's international racing colors.
Bira later became one of the first private entrants to order one of the new Maserati 250Fs but while his new car was being completed he raced his 1954 machine with a new 2.5-liter engine installed. He used this to win the Grand Prix des Frontieres on the Chimay road circuit in southern Belgium and then finished fourth in the French Grand Prix at Reims with the new 250F. Bira raced to the end of the 1954 season when he married for the second time and scored his final victory with the 250F in the non-championship New Zealand Grand Prix before retiring.
Thereafter he returned to live in Thailand although he maintained a European base in the form of a three-masted schooner berthed at Cannes, close to his other home, Villa les Faunes, at Mandelieu. A versatile and cultured man, Bira died on a London underground station after suffering a heart attack.

Me and 150 Formula 1 fans met face to face with leading figures from the sport at the FOTA Fans Forum, powered by Santander, in London this week.
The idea for the event, organised by Jamesallenonf1, came from the contents section on his website which has become a conduit for interactivity between the fans and the sport. The forum is an extension of that, putting the fans and the sport together in the same room to exchange ideas.
Led by Martin Whitmarsh, FOTA chairman and team principal of Vodafone McLaren Mercedes and featuring Tony Fernandes, team principal of Lotus Racing, Jock Clear, Senior Race Engineer, Mercedes GP Petronas F1 team, Luca Colajanni, Head of Motorsport Press Office, Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro and Paul di Resta test and reserve driver, Force India F1 team, the panel took part in a 90 minute discussion with fans.

Hi Bums
Webbo gets revenge ~~~ and wins Brit GP for Amazing Thailand! thailandflag
Mark Webber responded to the Red Bull front wing controversy in the best way imaginable by taking a commanding British Grand Prix victory ahead of Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg and Jenson Button.
Pole sitter Sebastian Vettel's chances of victory were ruined by a first-lap puncture, although he recovered to seventh, and there was further controversy over stewarding decisions after a contentious penalty for Fernando Alonso left the Ferrari outside the points.
Webber made a much better start than his team-mate and reached Copse first, despite Vettel's best efforts to squeeze him. Vettel then lurched off the road at Becketts with a right rear puncture, potentially the result of a slight touch from Hamilton's McLaren at the first corner.
Felipe Massa was also trundling back to the pits with flailing rubber - he had been side by side with his slow-starting Ferrari team-mate Alonso through the first corner and wheel banging at Becketts left the Brazilian with a puncture as well.
Webber therefore led from Hamilton, with this pair rapidly dropping quick-starter Robert Kubica (Renault) in third, who had Rosberg's Mercedes and Alonso all over the back of him.
Pitting slightly earlier than Kubica did not work for Alonso, whereas running a little longer did the trick for Rosberg. Eager not to lose more time, Alonso went down the outside of Kubica into Vale on lap 17, and completed the pass by nipping over the kerbs and cutting the first apex of Club.
He then sprinted away after Rosberg, while Kubica was assured that Alonso would be ordered to let him back through. That became a moot point three laps later though, when Kubica retired with a differential problem.
The stewards therefore ruled that Alonso should take a drive-through penalty, a decision announced just before the safety car came out so that debris could be cleared following contact between Adrian Sutil (Force India) and Pedro de la Rosa (Sauber) that left chunks of the latter's rear wing deposited on various straights. With Alonso having to take his penalty immediately after the restart, he tumbled straight to the midfield.
The safety car was a lifeline for Vettel, who had made little progress up to that point, but then started carving through the traffic with a string of spectacular passes, including one on Michael Schumacher. Sutil - who had also put a bold move on Schumacher after the restart - proved Vettel's toughest rival, and it took many laps of tough battling before the Red Bull driver finally muscled through to take seventh on the penultimate lap.
Far away from this excitement, Webber delivered a masterclass at the front of the field. Hamilton managed to tag along until the pitstops, but thereafter Webber was unstoppable, reeling off fastest laps whenever required and leading by 6s before easing off at the end.
Rosberg returned Mercedes to the podium with a strong run to third, despite losing a barge board when sweeping round the outside of the yet-to-stop Jaime Alguersuari's Toro Rosso mid-race. The German finished just ahead of Button, who surged through from 14th to fourth thanks to a great first lap and staying out much longer than most before his tyre change.
Rubens Barrichello gave Williams its second straight top five finish, with Kamui Kobayashi following him home for Sauber's best result of the year.
By the time Vettel was clear of Sutil that pack was too far ahead to reach, so he had to settle for seventh, followed by countrymen Sutil, Schumacher and Nico Hulkenberg.
Alonso's race got even worse when he sustained a puncture in a brush with Tonio Liuzzi's Force India, leaving him 14th, one place ahead of Massa, who needed a further set of new tyres after spinning on the exit of Luffield late on.

Hi Bums
I've got to get this off my chest ~~~~ Ferrari have pulled this stunt in the past and I am not surprised that they have done so again, but to have effected the change of lead in such an amateurish manner is laughable.
But to then go out and try to deny it in such a blatant manner is insulting mine and everyone else's intelligence and does them nor F1 no credit.
I am used to politicians lying through there teeth and arguing black is white and unfortunately expect no better from them, but I don't want to see in in my sport!
Well I feel better now .........think I will go and have a lie down!!

OK bums heres Autosports take on the grid for tomorrow!
By Jamie O'Leary Saturday, July 31st 2010, 13:03 GMT
Sebastian Vettel, Red Bull, Hungarian GPSebastian Vettel stormed to his seventh pole position of the season as Red Bull locked out the front row of the grid for the Hungarian Grand Prix.
The German leapt to the head of the field halfway through the final part of qualifying with a time of 1m18.773s, and was never headed after that, his team-mate Mark Webber ending up 0.419s slower in second place.
Webber, who slid wide at Turn 15 on his first flying lap of Q3, was unable to improve on his final attempt, meaning that Vettel was already guaranteed pole while he was still midway around his last lap.
Ferrari secured the second row of the grid with Fernando Alonso ahead of Felipe Massa. Alonso's best lap in Q3 made him the only non-Red Bull driver to dip below 1m20s all weekend.
Lewis Hamilton's McLaren and Nico Rosberg's Mercedes were next up with Vitaly Petrov producing the shock of the session as he not only took a career-best seventh spot, but also out-qualified his team-mate Robert Kubica by a place.
Impressive performances by Sauber's Pedro de la Rosa and Williams driver Nico Hulkenberg brought the pair into the top 10.
World champion Jenson Button was a shock elimination in Q2 as the McLaren driver could do no better than 11th after complaining that the grip he had during the morning had disappeared.
His fate, and that of Rubens Barrichello, was sealed when both Hulkenberg and De la Rosa pumped in quick times to take them into the top 10 in the final minute.
Michael Schumacher had yet another difficult afternoon, the seven-time world champion only managing 14th place on the grid in his Mercedes.
Sauber's Kamui Kobayashi was eliminated in Q1, the Japanese driver being baulked by a Hispania at Turn 14 on his final flying lap. After entering the pitlane, appeared ignored an instruction to stop at scrutineering, although the driver denied he had done anything wrong.
Timo Glock put Virgin on top of the new teams for only the third time this season in 19th, while Sakon Yamamoto had his most convincing performance since returning to F1. Despite qualifying 24th, he was just five hundredths of a second slower than his Hispania team-mate Bruno Senna.

I would like to tip "our" Mark as winner but I have a bad feeling about "Bucas" and the red team. I think they might have the legs on the "Bulls".
I see that the ever sensitive Schumacher finally apologised to Barrichello 25 days after his disgraceful and dangerous move on the Brazilian. Being the Prince among men that he is he chose to send Rubens the apology via an SMS message!! All subtelty is our Michael........he makes Senna look like a gentleman jumping8

Hi John
Well I have just watched 1st practice and it was WET!! Seems set for weekend! Which is always good at Spa (as long as you are watching from home). I would love to see Webah win or anyone as long as it's not the brat.
Have been to spa a few times but still have nasty flashbacks to 1986 when Mansell won. A coach load of Tifosi decided to show what they thought of that by dropping their strides 'en masse' in the car park. Not a pretty site confused4
As for Schumacher, well the man was an excellent racer but is somewhat lacking in the decent human being stakes! Reminds me of Phil Collins telling his wife that their marriage was over by fax! Some things you just do not do. stop1
Have a good flight.

Hi TBWG,
the Tifosi are not a good look at the best of times but dropping their strides takes it to a new level ! The wet weather will play in to the Bulls hands. Red Bulls strength is down force rather than out right speed so anything that makes the opposition crank on more wing is good. From what I hear the Bulls have changed the weave orientation in the CF of the nose section which allows droop at speed but allows the nose to pass impact and other tests. However they have achieved their advantage it's cunning stuff.
I saw the pictures of the new Sala.......well done.
Sorry if I have placed this thread in the wrong section.
Cheers,
John

Ferrari have escaped further punishment for using banned team orders where driver are told what to do, according to the Italian motorsport federation.
It has also been reported that the sport's governing body, the FIA, will consider the rule banning team orders.
The decision was made at a World Motor Sport Council disciplinary hearing.
Ferrari were fined $100,000 (£65,100) for appearing to give Felipe Massa a coded message to allow Fernando Alonso through to win the German Grand Prix.

Heidfeld in, de la Rosa out at Sauber
By Jonathan Noble AUTOSPORT Tuesday, September 14th 2010, 09:04 GMT
Sauber confirmed that Heidfeld will be replacing Pedro de la Rosa for the final five races of the season to compete alongside Kamui Kobayashi.
Team principal Peter Sauber suggested that the move had been made to better help the team understand its car.
"It was a hard decision for me to make as a team principal and I want to thank Pedro for his professionalism," explained Sauber. "By signing Nick we have a driver we know extremely well who will help us to further judge the comparative potential of our car."
De la Rosa expressed his shock at the decision, which comes after he returned to the sport at the start of this season.
"I am surprised by the team´s decision, but I respect it and would like to wish everyone good luck for the remainder of the season," he said. "I still intend to be in Formula 1 for 2011".
Heidfeld himself added: "I'm looking forward like crazy to having the opportunity to go racing again in a good car in Formula 1 from the Singapore Grand Prix onwards. After the last months I'm even more motivated than ever.
"For me it is like coming home, as I raced for seven years in total for the team from Hinwil. Without doubt I will be feeling at home straight away and this should help me to familiarise myself as soon as possible with the car. I want to thank Peter Sauber for the faith he has put in me."
##########################
I seem to recall that Heidfeld had a habit of getting the car home regularly and at one time held the record for the number of continuous finishes. (might still do). Anyway that is what Peter Sauber needs a regular finisher in the points. spot1
Pedro DLR is to replace Heidfeld as the Pirelli tester.

Raikkonen bids for 2011 Renault seat
By Jonathan Noble Autosport Tuesday, September 14th 2010, 05:19 GMT
Although it had looked likely that Raikkonen would remain in the World Rally Championship next year after his switch of discipline for this season, AUTOSPORT has learned that Raikkonen has renewed his interest in getting back to grand prix racing.
Sources have revealed that in the wake of Renault's impressive form at the Belgian Grand Prix, Raikkonen approached the French car manufacturer with the intent of putting a deal together.
It is not clear, however, whether Raikkonen spoke to Renault himself or if it was done through his management team.
Raikkonen has always insisted that he would only come back to F1 if he was in a competitive car - and that is something that Renault now appears to be able to offer him.
But despite Raikkonen's credentials, Renault is in no rush to advance talks with him - and it is still holding on for current driver Vitaly Petrov to prove he can deliver what the team is demanding of him.
Renault team principal Eric Boullier confirmed that Raikkonen had approached the team - and is in contention for a seat alongside Robert Kubica in 2011.
"It is true that the summer has passed and we have had more and more requests - and the guy you mentioned [Raikkonen] is on the radar now," Boullier told AUTOSPORT.
"He is on the radar because he contacted us."
Boullier has long said that the team will keep Petrov next year if the Russian can improve his consistency throughout a whole race weekend - and not make silly errors like his spin in qualifying in Spa and blocking Timo Glock in qualifying at Monza.
When asked what Petrov had to do to convince Renault that he is a better option than Raikkonen, Boullier said: "He is not very far away to be honest.
"It is still very complicated for him to have a complete weekend and be faultless, and that is where he needs to work and focus on, and develop clearly his commitment and dedication."
One of the attractions of Petrov is the commercial possibilities he opens up in Russia, and Boullier said Renault would have to change its approach if it decided to take the Raikkonen route.
"It would be a different strategy for the team," he said. "And that is not a question of personality or having a world championship title - it will cost me more if he is world champion than if he is not. It is not a question of this - it is a different strategy.
"You work differently if you have a rookie - and in supporting him - than if you have two experienced drivers. So it is different.
"We need to think about it. But the priority is Vitaly, and to see how he will develop. If we are convinced then we will keep him definitely. This is the first option.
But there are several other options, and one of them is Kimi."
Boullier said he expected a decision on Renault's 2011 driver line-up to be made before the end of the season.

Hi TBWG,
I am incredibly uninformed so I thought I would jump in first. However as a longstanding Lotus fan I have to say I love the livery on the Air Asia aircraft. That must have cost Fernandes a pretty penny. confused4
My allegiance is clear ,as a consequence I will put my neck on the line and say that Mark will win the Singapore GP ! Ok I've said it now so polish up your brickbats. Second and third will be between Hamilton,Button and Alonso. Vettel will be last seen on the main straight walking with a torch looking for all the toys he tossed from his pram ooooor possibly helping Fernando to find his toys. jumping7
Poor old Massa will be forgotten about as usual and Micheal ( Micheal who ? I hear you ask) will be wondering what the hell happened AGAIN!! I don't like the dangerous git but only a gold plated churl would say MS is completely talentless. I have a feeling we will see more of him next year after he subborns the team to his whims.
I will keep an eye out for Kubica and some of the newbies who's names allude me at the moment (wine fog tonguebar) Enjoy the race.
Cheers,
John

Well F1 Folks
Only 24 hours to go before practice kicks off! Will it or won't it, rain that is?
Now if your name is Mark Webah you are probably feeling quite smug right now as you have 2 brand spanking new engines in your back pocket. biggreen Whereas, if your name is Alonso you are teetering on the brink of a mega tantrum as you are 2nd hand engine king with 5 more races to go! bigcry. I see a ginormous strop on the horizon!
Webbo also has 1 more engine than his main rivals one of which is his teammate.
Talking about his teammate, I feel Webbo is also mentally stronger than Seb who seems to turn on the girly hissy fits every time things do not go his way.
Still if it pi**es down during qualy or the race then maybe the Pope in his Popemobile (mark 3) could spring a surprise. yeahme
Stay tuned fans

Hi folks
Well Sakon Yamamoto is flat on his back with Singapore trots, so reserve HRT driver Christian Klien will stand in for this weekend. congrats
Bearing in mind he has not competed in a race for 4 years and that it is expected to be a wet night race then it is a bit of a baptism of fire!
Still be interesting to see if he can put one over on Bruno Senna?

Well as a Lotus fan from way back I am pleased to see this press release from Sigapore. I hope the new team can bring some more glory to the name Team Lotus
Lotus Racing will be known as Team Lotus from next season after confirming a deal for the rights to the iconic name.
Lotus Racing announced in Singapore on Friday that Tony Fernandes and Kamarudin Meranun's Tune Group has acquired Team Lotus Ventures Ltd, the company led by David Hunt since Team Lotus was last on track, and through that agreement now has full ownership of the historic rights and goodwill of the Team Lotus brand and heritage.
"It's difficult to express just what it means to be able to say we are Team Lotus, one of the most iconic names in any form of sport worldwide," said Fernandes.
"We have been working very hard to make this dream come true, and today it has.
"After our first year in Formula One, we believe we are ready to do justice to the legacy we have inherited.
"It was always important to us that Lotus Racing and Team Lotus could be brought together to unite the past and the present, and now we have done so."
Hunt, meanwhile, is eager to see the Team Lotus name and badge back on the Formula One grid. "I'm delighted this day has finally arrived," he said.
"In January 1995, when I had the simply awful task of making the loyal Team Lotus personnel redundant, I promised them, the fans and the media that somehow we would return Team Lotus to F1 in good order and properly funded.
"We had no idea of the huge difficulties we would have to overcome when I made that statement.
"Nevertheless, I simply would not allow the legacy of Colin Chapman's extraordinary achievements to die.
"The custodianship of the iconic brand and history now passes from me to Tony.
"I look forward to assisting the team towards scoring Team Lotus' 80th grand prix win - that will be the day when all the effort of the past 15 years will finally seem worthwhile."

Hi F1 bums
Post Monza diatribe, courtesy of Pitflaps.com cool2
Noble, humiliated Latin country ego restored now shiny red car has beaten shiny silver car
SQPR et tu Brutae: An entire nation of proud Italian men and women have regained their self-respect following the victory of a car painted largely red under all its advertising logos, sort of mostly made by their fellow countrymen, writes our breast-beating correspondent, Travis Spectacle.
Crossing the finishing line a few seconds ahead of a silver car made by a bunch of Englishmen and Germans in a factory in Surrey, the whole of the country formally known as a bit of the Roman Empire erupted in pride and joy at the red car’s crushing marginal victory last Sunday.
“Today has been the most amazing day of my lifeâ€, one fan told us, draped in one of the red car’s flags he’d stolen from an unattended merchandise stall barely 20 minutes after the famous win.
“Before this weekend I was bereft; my life a drab, uninspiring morass of meaningless actions defining my life as an Italian citizen in the most anodyne and banal fashion only a daytime television commissioning editor could imagineâ€, he told us.
“But now that Spanish bloke with the eyebrows has vanquished the blonde one with the teeth I feel completely uplifted spiritually, fully formed and at one with this magnificent nationâ€, he fulminated, spreading his arms to encompass the borderline xenophobic rampage going on around him.
“Many countries rely on a peculiarly gullible populace to enable them to routinely shaft their citizens with complete impunityâ€, Professor Caz Carolgees of the Institute for the Study of Basketcase Nations told us.
“But the prize for outright credulous, juvenile fuckwittery surely has to go to Italyâ€, he added.
“Only here could a whole culture exist depending almost entirely on the slavish devotion to one lump of brightly coloured metal finishing ahead of another differently brightly coloured bit of metal every other week to grant them any self-respectâ€, he explained.
“The nearest thing I can think of to this level of infantile retardedness is Scottish people’s relationship with Irn-Bru or just every Frenchman I’ve ever met, generallyâ€, he surmised.
“And don’t even get me started on their clinging sentimentality for fascism and ridiculous devotion to worshiping a discredited arcane religion eitherâ€, he finished in case we had’t got it yet.
“ING-A-LURND, ING-A-LURND, ING-A-LURND, ING-A-LURND, ING-A-LURND-ING-A-LURND, ING-A-LU-URND, ING A LURRRRRRNNNND!!!!“ Richard Littlejohn later added in agreement.

Alonso is probably my least favorite driver (well a toss up with Schumacher) but he put in a faultless drive and deserved the win, whilst for the second race on the trot Lewis self destructs! My driver of the race must be Kubica, mass overtakings after a late puncture but still finished with a good haul of points. Also the Williams team had another race with both drivers in the points! Unlike Kovalainen who had a bonfire on last lap in front of the pits ~~~ all good stuff!

Hulkenberg given 20-second penalty
Sunday, September 26th 2010, 17:43 GMT
Nico Hulkenberg has been handed a 20-second penalty following a protest by the Force India team in Singapore.
The Silverstone-based squad protested against Hulkenberg after its own driver Adrian Sutil was given a 20-second penalty for having gained from going around the outside of Turn 7 on the opening lap of the race.
The team felt the Williams driver has also gained from cutting a corner.
Sutil, who had finished the race in eighth, was demoted to 10th, but has now moved to ninth following Hulkenberg's penalty.
The Williams driver, meanwhile, drops to 10th.
The penalty means Force India is back in front of Williams in the Constructors' Championship. Force India has also confirmed it has withdrawn its protest against Sutil's penalty decision.
Ferrari's Felipe Massa, having finished in 10th, moves up to eighth.

You might like this F One!
Fernando Alonso was the only one not amused when Sebastian Vettel cracked a joke during Saturday night's post-qualifying press conference.
Vettel qualified behind Ferrari's pole sitting Alonso on the Singapore street circuit, but said he still rated his chances of driving his Red Bull to the top of the podium.
"The further up you are the more it helps but obviously the race can still change a couple of things. I think Fernando started here from 15th on the grid two years ago and won the race," said the 23-year-old German.
He smiled as he paused; the reporters laughing as they realised Vettel was referring to the famous 2008 race, when Nelson Piquet crashed deliberately to trigger an opportune safety car period for his Spanish teammate. Alonso's face matched the hue of his Ferrari overalls!

Thailand and F1 thumbup bravo1
October 6, 2010 by joesaward
Dietrich Mateschitz has long been a man with ambitions in motor racing. He has been involved in the sport since the very beginning of the Red Bull story, when the then new drinks company had a personal sponsorship deal with Gerhard Berger. He then became the sponsor of Sauber and ultimately bought the Jaguar Racing and Minardi teams to become Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Toro Rosso. He also acquired the Osterreichring, which is now known as the Red Bull Ring. On top of all of this he has invested in a NASCAR team and in any number of personal sponsorships in the junior formulae, in rallying, touring car racing and so on. His ambition is to win the World Championship, while at the same time increasing sales of his celebrated energy drink.
What is not well known is that Mateschitz owns only 49% of the business. His partner Chaleo Yoovidhya, a Thai national, owns another 49%, while Yoovidhya’s son Chalerm owns the remaining two percent, having been the man who introduced the two major partners. That was back in the early 1980s. The deal was that Mateschitz would run the business, but that the Thais would have nominal control. Chaleo (78) is now the richest person in Thailand, with a fortune estimated at $4 billion, thanks to Red Bull, and to other products that are produced by his TC Pharmaceuticals company, which continues to market the original energy drink Krating Daeng (on which Red Bull is based) in the Asian markets. The success of the Red Bull business has enabled Chalerm to become Thailand’s most celebrated winemaker, while also being the co-owner of Cavallino Motors, a joint venture with the Bhirombhakdi Family, which owns the Singha Beer company. Singha was recently seen as a sponsor on the Red Bull-Renaults in F1 and said that this was designed to promote Formula 1 in Thailand, which would automatically create interest in Ferrari.
Now Chalerm is saying that he wants to build a F1 circuit in Thailand, so that there can be a Thai Grand Prix. He says that this will help to boost the tourism industry in the country. The country does have a 1.5-mile circuit near the seaside resort of Pattaya. This was built in 1985 and named after Prince Birabongse Bhanutej Bhanubandh (known in Europe as “Prince Biraâ€) who raced Grand Prix cars with some success in the 1940s and 1950s. This is not suitable for Formula 1.
The shift of F1 towards Asia means that Thailand should be considered a sensible contender if Red Bull is willing to put up the money. Why not a Red Bull Ring in Asia, as well as in Austria?

Oh Dear!
Qualifying for the Japanese Grand Prix has been rescheduled to take place on Sunday morning following torrential rain at Suzuka on Saturday.
Storms at the track that intensified over the day meant it was never safe to let Formula 1 drivers attempt to set grid times.
Despite several time delays to try and wait for a window in the weather, the FIA said at 3.18pm local time that qualifying would now be shifted back to Sunday morning.
A new track inspection will take place at 9:30am tomorrow, with qualifying to start at 10am - five hours before the start of the race.
It is the first time since the 2004 Japanese Grand Prix that a qualifying session has had to be abandoned and shifted back to Sunday.
Qualifying for the 2004 event also took place on 9 October, and it was Michael Schumacher who secured pole position on Sunday.

Hamilton to take five-place grid penalty at Japanese Grand Prix
Published: 10/10/2010 at 06:58 AM
Bangkok Post: Online news: Sports
McLaren's Lewis Hamilton faces a five-place drop on the grid for Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix after the team was forced to change the gearbox on the Briton's car.
McLaren-Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton drives in the rain during the third free practice session of the Formula One's Japanese Grand Prix at the Suzuka circuit in western Japan. Hamilton faces a five-place drop on the grid for Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix after the team was forced to change the gearbox on the Briton's car.
The 25-year-old has had a miserable weekend at Suzuka, crashing heavily in first practice on Friday and being forced to sit out much of the afternoon session as the team frantically fixed his battered MP4-25 machine. Hamilton was one of 22 drivers not to set a timed lap in a wet practice session Saturday morning, and with qualifying postponed to Sunday because of worsening weather, he has completed just six timed laps of the daunting 5.8km circuit this weekend.
On Saturday night, McLaren found that there was an oil pressure problem with Hamilton's gearbox, necessitating its replacement and a five-place penalty on the grid for Sunday's race.
Hamilton is in third place in the championship standings, 20 points behind Red Bull's Mark Webber with four races remaining.
The 2008 world champion has failed to finish three of the last four races, the last two after retiring with accident damage after attempting to overtake Ferrari's Felipe Massa in Italy and Webber in Singapore a fortnight ago.

Hi F1 bums! spot1
Well folks it looks like the Korean GP is on! Mind you I don't think it was ever a non starter it would just cause to much of a loss to the little greedy ones wallet. party13
Mind you if you had bought tickets and it had been cancelled you would have been in for a long wait to get your cash back!
I have a buddy who is still waiting for a return after the Spa GP was cancelled due to the track tearing up about 20 years ago.
Anyway I will be watching the Korean GP as we do our packing for the return to Thailand next day ~~~ can't wait on both fronts. thumbup

Jorge Lorenzo may have been crowned world champion but that does not mean the 2010 MotoGP season is over - far from it.
I think we could still see some real fireworks in the last few races, mainly between Lorenzo and his biggest rival, Yamaha team-mate and former world champion Valentino Rossi, starting this weekend at Phillip Island in Australia.
Lorenzo confirmed his status as the champion in Malaysia last weekend but Rossi will have been very pleased to steal a bit of his limelight by winning the race, ending his longest barren run for 10 years in the process.
It was a good weekend all round for Yamaha. Rossi proved he is back to his best and Lorenzo won the title but you can almost smell the cordite in the air as you walk through the team garage.
606: DEBATE
Discuss MotoGP on 606
Lorenzo's title celebration party ended up with everyone jumping into a swimming pool.
Lots of people got their heads shaved, too. I was talking to Lorenzo's team manager the next day and it took me a while to realise who he was because he looked so different.
Prior to the race in Sepang, Lorenzo said he was going to make sure it was a quiet one as far as he was concerned. He just wanted to make sure he finished the race as champion.
Now that he has achieved that goal, expect a different Lorenzo out on the track, starting this weekend.
He has absorbed everything he can from Rossi over the last few years, which includes the rough stuff, so I would imagine he has got some things up his sleeve for the remaining races this season.
This weekend will not just be about Rossi and Lorenzo, though.
Lorenzo seals MotoGP title (UK only)
Casey Stoner will be desperate to impress in his home race, particularly given that he must be as mad as a bear about the way he fell off early in Malaysia because his tyres were not warmed up.
And Dani Pedrosa will be back after missing the last two races with a broken collarbone.
Lorenzo's title win means that next season we will have four world champions on the grid - Rossi, Lorenzo, Stoner and Nicky Hayden.
Then there is Pedrosa, Andrea Dovizioso and Ben Spies, who are potential title challengers. It bodes very well for next year.
But the 2010 season still has a way to run - and this weekend should witness an absolute humdinger of a race.

Why I am glad to be off to Korea
October 19, 2010 by joesaward
Most of the Formula 1 circus is not looking forward to going to Korea. Many are staying at home, amid the usual rumours about things not being ready, having to eat “doggie and two vegâ€, and getting lost in world of endless paddy fields, where no-one speaks a word of English… And so on. I am told by my friends that the word “motel†does not mean I am staying in a hotel, but rather in a brothel. Ah well, so long as they don’t rent out my room when I am at the race track, I really don’t care. It cannot be any worse that the first year in Bahrain when I was staying in a place where Russian hookers seemed to rule the roost…
I am sure that it will be fine. In fact I am sure it will be rather less chaotic than living in France at the moment. I live in a country village, about 50 miles from Paris and so I am not really affected by the excesses of the French unions and their short-sighted supporters. I need fuel to get from A to B, but at this time of year A is home and B is Paris, which means that I shuttle backwards and forwards along the same route. The airport is between the two. So a tank of petrol will last me a few weeks, which is a good thing in the current climate. My life is not entirely unaffected by the mess, although yesterday it did take me two hours to cover the journey. There was terrible traffic, presumably due to truck drivers doing their infamous “Operation Escargotâ€, which means they slow to a crawl and jam everyone behind them. Liberté, égalité et fraternité – pour moi!
One of the petrol stations on my route from A to B
I sneaked on to a different road but then found myself in the middle of a demonstration of college students, who have obviously learned the bad habits of their parents and do not seem to understand that if they win this strike and the government backs down they will not have any kind of pension at all, because France will be bankrupt by the time they are old and ready to retire.
Having dodged around that I stopped for a coffee in a petrol station (disturbed sleep patterns being as they are after two out-and-back trips to Asia, with a third – hopefully – beginning tomorrow). The petrol pumps were dry because the unions are blockading the oil refineries. At least this time the government seems willing to send in the police to restore order in vital places, which is progress compared to the last time we went through all this rigmarole. Having lived through the Thatcher Years in Britain I understand what is needed in France, where the unions have too much power and, in my opinion, misuse it disgracefully. Some may not agree with that opinion, but I know that after the Iron Lady faced down the miners in the UK, and Ronald Reagan dealt with the air traffic controllers in the United States, it was a great deal easier to do business. Unions do have a role to pay in societies where there is real injustice and poor working regulation, but France is anything but that.
When I finally reached home I found an e-mail from a mate who flits between France and England. It said: “now back in London and considering the state of affairs in France, happy to be soâ€. I thought for a moment that perhaps one day I will move back to the mother country.
In the circumstances I am happy to be going off for a little bit of an adventure in Korea. In the Asia of today they understand that to make progress one has to work, because countries have to compete in a global world, where no-one is protected. No-one is living on past glories, no-one is leeching off the state. As each nation invests in new technology,or embarks on a new mega-project, Europe falls a little further behind. This will not change as long as the current attitudes exist.
It is something that Bernie Ecclestone has been saying for years – and he is right (as usual).
“Europe will be a Third World economy in the next decade, in particular Britain. In South America and Asia there is a work ethic. Over here they want everything for free. The National Health Service means everyone thinks they can have just what they want. I’d get rid of it. We should be running the country like a business rather than social care.â€
In the circumstances I think Korea is an infinitely more inviting prospect… at least for four or five days.

living in England has some serious advantages for lazy folks.
on the other hand, it system is one of the best in the world and support the weaker sector like old people, people with disabilities and holding up the people together. right? don't you think so?
Is it better to have a country like US where you almost get nothing when you are in need for help and send you back to work? or like Thailand?

As the end of the season approaches, the F1 circus again goes halfway around the world -- to South America. The Brazilian Grand Prix is one of the toughest on the F1 calendar. The four point three kilometre circuit 'between the lakes', as Interlagos means when translated, demands everything of the drivers' skills.
Experience the track out the drivers' perspective!
Circuit Guide - Brazil - Interlagos (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAil-hOa7no#)

I know there is one more race after Brazil however I think that this is it for the main players. No skulduggery or stupidity should be ruled out! Brazil traditionally shows which non contender drivers are prepared to back a contender mate. For instance should Alonso find himself near Michael Schumacher then he should be very wary. MS is a great mate of MW and they share a common allegiance through Mercedes. Mercedes owe MW a great deal for his silence over the two time debacle at Le Mans. I am sure we remember MW flying above the trees TWICE!! Well bring it on............shame it's at such a silly broadcast hour confused4
Cheers,

Mark Webber has declared himself an inconvenience to his Red Bull team, who he feels are emotionally behind team-mate Sebastian Vettel.
Despite still being firmly in contention for the Formula One World Championship, Webber delivered his latest damning appraisal of life behind the scenes at a team where battle lines remain drawn.
In many respects, Webber's media gathering ahead of this weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix was often more about what he did not say than his actual comments.
At times the Australian wore an air of resignation, sat slumped in his chair, shrugged his shoulders and there were a number of lengthy silences before he answered questions.
For a man only 11 points behind Championship leader Fernando Alonso with two races remaining, Webber appeared more akin to someone who had just lost the title rather than being firmly in the hunt.
Asked whether it was a fair assessment that he felt the team was still not fully behind him, there was a long pause before Webber said: "Technically everything's been very, very good."
Pushed as to the personal, emotional side of the coin, Webber made his feelings clear, adding: "It's obvious isn't it?
"I'm an old stager and when young, new chargers come onto the block that's where the emotion is. That's the way it is, which is absolutely fine.
"I've had a great opportunity and a great car to go and do some great things this year, and I have done that.
"I have a chance of winning the Championship, I've won four races, I've had nine podiums, it's been a sensational year for me.
"I can still put the icing on the cake and I'd love to be able to do that. If we don't, the sun still comes up on Monday morning.
"But I've favourites in life. I've got people I like to be with. That's how it is. It's human nature."
Webber was referring to Vettel's close association with team owner Dietrich Mateschitz and his right-hand man Helmut Marko, who on occasion this year has not hidden his sentiment towards the young German.
Asked if he was the people's favourite, Webber added: "I think I wasn't supposed to be in the hunt at all, so it's been maybe quite inconvenient, but I've enjoyed every minute of it."
One of the major talking points is whether Vettel, who is 25 points down on Alonso, should now play the supporting role.
Webber was asked if he would support Vettel if the situation was reversed.
His reply, after yet another lengthy pause and a deep sigh, further underlined the division which exists between them.
"It's a tough question and a tough situation to know how you would do things," Webber added.
"There's a lot of really good people at this team and there's no getting away from the fact we would love to win some Championships this year.
"We're at different parts of our career as well, so it's not as easy as some might imagine. I'd need to think a lot further about that.
"For different reasons here and there, Seb's never led the Championship this year and I have.
"Whatever the best way we go about trying to win the Championship, we'll see on the Monday after Abu Dhabi if it was the right way."
Asked to respond to Webber's comments, team principal Christian Horner said: "It's not been inconvenient at all.
"He's had tremendous support from the whole team, not just this year, but in all the years he's been with Red Bull.
"He's probably referring to the support of Helmut to Sebastian, but that doesn't influence the way the team operates or the way it supports its drivers.
"We've given both drivers a great car and we've given Mark the tools to get the job done."

Hi F1 Bums
Well Red Bull firmly in control after practice 1. With Ferrari languishing mid field. Another engine gone pop for monobrow, humm s'pose that means hope for the best with his stash of used engines or a grid drop. Oh dear, what a shame, never mind!
Anyway still a long way to go before the fat dude sings! However it does seem that the teams have now appointed their chosen ones confused4

Hi Fans
Wow ~~~ that was not expected! congrats
Rookie Nico Hulkenberg judged damp-but-drying conditions to perfection to claim a sensational maiden pole position – and Williams’s first in more than five years – in a nail-biting qualifying session at Interlagos.
On a tricky, greasy track that called for a switch from intermediate to slick tyres halfway through Q3, Hulkenberg trumped all the championship contenders in the biggest qualifying turn-up since Giancarlo Fisichella put Force India on pole at Spa last autumn.
He did it in emphatic style, too – producing two laps quick enough for pole, the final one leaving him more than a second clear of compatriot and qualifying king Sebastian Vettel, who edged out team-mate Mark Webber for second place.
Championship outsider Lewis Hamilton took fourth and was disappointed not to have missed a rare opportunity to out-qualify the usually dominant Red Bulls, while points leader Fernando Alonso was content enough with fifth.
Jenson Button’s dwindling title hopes took another blow after he failed to make the cut for Q3. The reigning champion will line up 11th, two spots behind Ferrari number two Felipe Massa.
The track was damp throughout, drying only slowly and fitfully through the first two knockout sessions, which were headed by Alonso and Webber respectively.
But by the time Q3 began, the lap times on intermediate tyres were approaching the ‘crossover point’ at which a change to slicks became profitable – and all the remaining 10 drivers were soon back in the pits again for dry rubber.
Williams had made the switch earlier than most, but surprisingly it was Hulkenberg rather than his vastly more experienced team-mate Rubens Barrichello who began lighting up the timing screens.
His initial benchmark of 1m16.373s was soon eclipsed by Hamilton and then Alonso in the improving conditions, but Hulkenberg had found a fine rhythm and kept moving the target as he reeled off an error-free sequence of laps.
His next effort of 1m15.462s proved too good for all the big names on their final runs – and, having crossed the line a few seconds before the chequered flag fell on the session, Hulkenberg had another lap in his pocket.
This one stopped the clocks in a stunning 1m14.470s – leaving the whole paddock suitably impressed and prompting whoops of delight in the usually low-key and businesslike Williams garage, even if team co-owner Patrick Head was quick to point out that the prizes are handed out on Sundays.
Webber’s sequence of laps was interrupted by an off-course moment at the final corner, which compromised not only the lap he was on but the following one too – but the Australian was happy to have outqualified his principal title rival Alonso.
Barrichello completed a banner day for Williams by taking sixth on the grid ahead of Renault’s Robert Kubica, whose Renault looked a handful on the slippery track.
Michael Schumacher took a solid eighth, five places ahead of his Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg, who blamed his Q2 exit on an obstructive Sebastien Buemi.
Massa and Petrov rounded out the top 10, while Adrian Sutil was an unexpected casualty of Q1 and will start from the back row once a five-place grid penalty carried over from the Korean GP takes effect.

Life is hard in Brazil !
Jenson Button has escaped unharmed after the car he was travelling in was the subject of an armed attack as he left the Interlagos circuit in Sao Paulo.
The reigning F1 Champion and his father John were being driven away from the venue of Sunday's Brazilian GP when their car came under attack.
Button's manager Richard Goddard and trainer Mike Collier were also in the vehicle as they left after Saturday's qualifying session.
Button, who was being driven in an armoured vehicle with a police driver at the helm, escaped the assailants before returning to his hotel.
A statement issued by Button's McLaren team read: "On Saturday, armed assailants made an attempt to approach the car carrying Jenson Button.
"Neither Jenson nor the other occupants of the car were hurt. McLaren provided Jenson and team-mate Lewis Hamilton with reinforced armoured vehicles.
"The police driver of Jenson's vehicle reacted swiftly and, using avoidance techniques, rapidly forced his way through the traffic, taking Jenson away from any danger.
"The Sao Paulo authorities have acted efficiently and will provide additional security for Sunday's Brazilian Grand Prix."
Button said: "We were going back from the track and were outside a shanty town and moving slowly on a busy road.
"I saw a dog come out, which was very cute. The next thing I saw was a man with a gun. I said 'isn't that a gun?' and as soon as I said that, the driver angled the car and floored it.
"That's when we saw six men, all of them brandishing machine guns. My driver was a legend. He bounced off about five cars. We were driving over the top of them. It was very scary."

SAO PAULO, Brazil | Sebastian Vettel won the Formula One Brazilian Grand Prix Sunday as the Red Bull team sent the circuit championship battle against Fernando Alonso down to the wire.
Alonso, a Ferrari driver, failed to secure a third career title on the Interlagos course but finished third on the day in taking an eight-point lead into next Sunday’s season-ender in Abu Dhabi.
Alonso has 246 points, Webber 238 and Vettel 231 as the remaining three realistic championship contenders, while Lewis Hamilton has a mathematical chance at 222 points. A victory is worth 25 points.
It is the fourth time in five seasons that the world title will be decided in the final race.
The one-two finish from Vettel and Webber allowed Red Bull to clinch the constructors’ title for the first time in team history with 469 points to McLaren’s 421.

Talk about making life difficult for themselves ~~~ This article by Joe Saward says it all!
Vettel wins in Brazil – the air is thin in Austria
November 7, 2010 by joesaward
Red Bull made a very clear statement in Brazil. It is either run by someone who is stark raving bonkers, or is only willing to apply team orders at the last minute, if it is necessary to do so to save the Drivers’ World Championship from going to Ferrari. It seems that until there is absolutely no chance at all left for Sebastian Vettel to win the title, it is not going to help Mark Webber. Small wonder that Webber feels aggrieved with his team. The one thing he can do to strengthen his situation is to win the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, but thanks to the decisions that have been made he still has to hope that Vettel will be there behind him to keep Alonso out of second place. If Vettel screws up, crashes or blows an engine, Red Bull Racing will likely lose the title because Alonso will be there to snap up second place. The only thing that the team could then hope for is some help from McLaren…
Red Bull has the best car and should, logically, finish 1-2 in Abu Dhabi, but if that is the case and Vettel leads Webber and Alonso to the finish line, then Alonso will win the title. Vettel’s only hope is that things will go badly wrong for Alonso and he will finish fourth, but that has happened only once in the last eight races. If the order is Vettel-Webber-Alonso as they go into the final lap on Yas Island it will be necessary to tell Vettel to allow Webber to pass, but if the team is really going to carry through this much-vaunted sporting attitude that it has spouted forth all year, it will have to give the biggest prize away.
No-one is that stupid in the modern day and age.
Worst still, if Alonso crashes or blows up and Vettel and Webber are running one-two in the final laps of the Abu Dhabi race, both will end up with 256 points and then it will be down to counting back the points. That would likely trigger utter mayhem between the two team mates… as we saw in Turkey, because Vettel would win the countback. If both collided and retired Webber would be champion… In such a scenario Webber has nothing to lose but to try to pass the German.
All of this could have been avoided by switching Vettel and Webber in Brazil. That would have meant the same Constructors’ points but would have meant that Alonso would have needed to beat at least one Red Bull to win the title. Switching Vettel and Webber would not have been a case of applying team orders to the detriment of the sport. It would have been logical and the FIA has never worried about such things in the closing stages of a championship. In any case, it can hardly punish Red Bull with more than a fine, having let Ferrari off earlier in the year, without making itself look bad.
Hey-ho… Roll on Abu Dhabi.

World Championship permutations again by Joe Saward.
If you have had a few beers forget it ~~~ You need a clear head to follow this, so read when sober blinkbar!
While Dietrich Mateschitz is telling the world that Red Bull is not like Ferrari and will not impose team orders in Abu Dhabi, he has managed to set himself up for a disaster because his strategic thinking has created a situation in which he has left both of his drivers in a situation where they must challenge the other… The Milton Keynes team should have won the championship easily, given the pace of the car, but screw-ups by the team and the drivers, and Mateschitz’s attitude have left the door open. Fernando Alonso can bang the door shut on the Red Bulls if he wins the race or finishes second. If the Red Bulls fail to finish then Alonso wins the title, in these scenarios it is irrelevant what happens to the Red Bulls.
If Alonso is third he can be beaten by Webber, but only if the Australian wins the race – or is allowed to win the race. If Webber is second behind Vettel and Alonso is third then Fernando wins the title. If Alonso is fourth he is also champion in those circumstances, but a fifth place finish with Vettel and Webber one-two would mean a three-way tie on points with Vettel and Webber. In that situation then Webber would be out of the picture, as he would have won only four races. Vettel and Alonso would each have five wins, two seconds, three thirds and Vettel would win it because he has three fourth places to Alonso’s two.
In the worst case scenario Mateschitz’s policy will cause the team to lose the title. Webber and Vettel both need to win and they have no reason to back off, because they have been left with no other choices. Webber is not going to deliberately take out Vettel (as others might perhaps be willing to do) and there is no incentive for Vettel to try to take Webber off because Sebastian needs to keep his car going. Thus if Webber is leading Vettel, the onus will be on Vettel to pass; and if the order is reversed the onus will be on Webber. A Vettel-Webber 1-2 leaves them on equal points (256) and Sebastian would take the title because he would have five wins to Mark’s four. In these circumstances Webber would be forgiven for making a risky challenge because he has nothing to lose and Vettel would be forgiven for closing the door because he needs to win the race. If he is second and Webber is fifth or lower and Alonso is ninth or lower then the title will be his. So to him it does not much matter if the two cars collide. It is a recipe for disaster because neither driver can afford to compromise.
The biggest disaster of all would be for Webber and Vettel to collide because they have no choices other than to be utterly uncompromising… and then for Alonso to come through to win.
If Alonso is out of the running, Vettel must be second if he is to win the title, but in that scenario Webber must not be ahead of him. The three could all end up with 246 points if Alonso retires, Vettel is third and Webber sixth. If that were to happen the crown would go to Alonso, because he would have five wins to Vettel’s four. Lewis Hamilton has a mathematical chance of winning the World Championship, but it is slimmer than slim: the British driver goes into the race 24 points behind Alonso, with 25 points available for a win, which means that Lewis would have to win the race, with Alonso failing to score, Webber in sixth or lower and Vettel no higher than third if he is sneak victory.
Got that? congrats
