Just wondering who is going to buy all these mansions that western guys are building when they are dead ? Just cannot imagine some Thai coming up with Bt10m to Bt20m or more for a house. I know one in the missus' village which is so big it is mad. Everyone jokes about it now.
Just humour me with your replies !

everybody joking but she got the money to build a nice house for herself.
not surprising me with all atmosphere between thais-farang around.
if you have the money, plenty of money..... you would have build a nicer house than you have right now /if you have.
last point about thais. people tend to think thai are poor no money etc etc. but the truth is there are some very rich people living in buriram province. some of them officials and private landlords and business owners they can spend 10 millions on a house if they wish to do so . not a big deal. oldmanwithstick

Maddness, indeed! What might be considered a disturbing trend, are the prices some realtors and speculators are asking for 2-3 rai vacant parcels. Naturally, their targeted market is the Farang fool, whom will ever so willing to cough-up triple the real worth of the property. brick1

The farang are building them but the gf's and bf's own them. Since most of us are significantly older than our partners, we are likely to be leaving the house behind. Currently there is no property tax. So the Thai partner will own it free and clear and three generations of her family will probably move in and spend the rest of their days living off the farang's insurance money and whatever else he leaves behind. These palaces won't be sold for another forty years, by which time Thailand will have arrived into at least the 20th century and be a favored trading partner with the world's leading power then, China. China is short on female marriage partners since so many parents kill off their one permitted child if she is a girl and they will drift down to Thailand with their billions in rimbini (valued at 2 to the dollar and 2.1 to the euro) to do exactly what European and American farang are doing now.
All in all, it seems like a sound investment for the Thai partner.

Nobody's going to buy them. Come the revolution, they'll be trashed.
