Dear members,
A new place has been opened in Prakhon Chai.
Coffee shop name: "Coffee Corner".
Direction: Coming from Buriram (219 road) on the junction of Buriram Road and Maharaj Road (bus station road).
You'll see the place about 500 metres from the traffic lights on the main 24 road.
The owner making last arrangment to settle the place and will be ready to open within few days only! character4
Good luck to the owner (Ray) , looking forward to hear some updates and pictures of the place.

Thank you for the mention about Coffee Corner.
Coffee Corner has it's official 'monk opening' tomorrow (Sunday 25th).
After that we will be open for coffees, Falang & Thai food plus (of course party4) beer !
It is intended to be a European style coffee shop, providing English-style fodder (breakfasts, jacket potatoes, sandwiches, bangers & mash, pie and chips - you get the idea). Buriram Expats will notice a similarity to Rocky's Coffee Connection - my thanks again to him for all the support he has provided whilst we put this project together.
Falang and Thais are very welcome welcome1 and I will post pictures and menus shortly.
It will be probably be a 'Bugger's Muddle' for a while because I have no catering experience, the wife love6 can't cook and her sister (our "Chef") surrender1 wouldn't know a Cumberland sausage from Be Lucky. BUT, we will try and serve food hot hungry1 and will attempt to co-ordinate orders so they come out at the same time as your partner.
For those of you are used to having your rice come first, with the related curry etc arriving just as the rice is getting cold will have to put in a special request (I hope!) :D
-
Good luck, Ray
See you soon

What a lovely expression for a useless one! sawadi
The main thing however is that the staff know a Leo from an Archa! unsurebar

Looking forward to your 'heads up'!!!!!!!!!!
I too made it over to Coffee Corner with Welsh Tony yesterday and very impressed was I.
The place is bigger than I'd imagined and done out to a high standard with large plateglass windows on 2 sides. Although the furniture looks great inside, we sat out with all the other friends.
Bangers and Mash and Fish and Chips were ordered and enjoyed by us both.
It was no suprise that the company and service was also wonderful. As I didn't know the location 100%, my only improvement I could think of, was to have some signage in English(high up) that
can be seen clearly from the road. Us 2 numbskull had to drive past a few times to make sure it was our destination
The toilet is a top rate and like everywhere, Immaculate.

Hi Bums
Whilst passing through Prakhon Chai at the weekend I stopped in at Coffee Corner and scoffed down a fish & chips, great batter, in fact I would go as far as to say best fish & chips I have had in Thailand.
Also the toilet is recommended (to use not to eat). Infact if you are ever passing through Prakhon Chai it would be nonsensical not to stop there! hungry1

Min 250g uncooked weight of prime Tenderloin Beef . Served with Steak Chips and Peas or Mashed Potatoes and Seasonal Vegetables. Gravy.
Tenderloin/fillet - This is an 'internal' muscle and does little work so is very tender. However it doesn't have a strong flavor.
Rump - Rich 'beefy' flavour, with a grainier texture than tenderloin. It isn't as tender.
Ribeye - This steak comes from the forequarter ( and as such it has great flavor. It also tends to have a little more fat.
T-Boneâ€â€taken from the small end of the loin and containing a T-shaped bone.
These are the cooking definitions that we aim for:-
Well done: Grayish-brown with no sign of pink, usually slightly charred on the outside.
Medium well: Mostly gray-brown throughout, but with a hint of pale pink inside. Good for someone who wants a slightly juicy steak, but not any sign of "blood" in their meat.
Medium: A more pronounced band of pink in the middle of the steak. However, there should still be slightly more gray-brown than pink coloration.
Medium rare: Warm and mostly pink to red center. Firm on the outside,
soft and juicy on the inside.

I had to travel to Ban Kruat yesterday and stopped in at Coffee Corner for breakfast. This was my first visit (and have to say it will not be my last), I had the Big Breakfast and my wife had the Small Breakfast, both were excellent quality and in my opinion excellent value. The service was superb and very friendly, the facilities, toilet etc all top notch. All of this and free wifi too. Surely this place is setting the standard for others to follow, cheers, keep it up and see yopu again soon.
-
Thanks for those kind words Geordie Boy - it really is appreciated. We are trying to delivery a particular standard of food and service and comments like that that make it all worthwhile.
(I should have realised it was you when you asked for stotties and pease pudding with the breakfast ! - only joking Geordie lad.)
-
As a true Geordie Boy I speak as I find and I cannot fault the service and quality of the food I had yesterday.
I shall however be visiting your establishment again, very soon, incognito. I will of course shower first, no coal dust. I will arrive by car or motorcycle, not as I did previously in a charabanc (sure Wiki can help for those who need a translation, but those lazy bu88*rs amongst you it is a chartered coach trip). I will not call the young lady serving “hinnie” nor will I ask for some hay for the Pit Pony outside.
Instead I will have, perhaps, the Fish and Chips, that come highly recommended, or the Friday Special of Roast Beef. Oh Bu*g8r think I have just given away when I will be there next.
Keep it up, credit where credit is due.
I hasten to add I receive no financial incentive for posting this comment, excluding all the Black Puddings and Stotties available in Coffee Corner (which, I saw, in total, regrettably………………………NONE).
Cheers
-
Geordie Boy, lad........
You want black pudding you can get it at Coffee Corner.
Either with a breakfast or a 100g frozen portion to takeaway for 40 Baht.
Stotties I will have to work on when I get back in January !
-
For all of you chaps out there who from the non "Northern" persuasion, or as some people say "southern shandy drinking t*****s" a Black Pudding is a food from the Gods. Simply "a type of sausage made by cooking blood or dried blood with a filler until it is thick enough to congeal when cooled" thanks Wiki. And as for a Stottie................What more can I say If you have never had a "Gregg's" stottie with Ham "n" Pease Pud you have never lived!!! Or maybe I am sad...........................but then again not en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stottie_cake Enjoy your trip Was there last month, bloody cold, but hell, home is home etc.
Coffee will you please stop talking dirty to me, next you will be talking about Saveloy's or Battered Spam, Dumplings, Faggots, Suet Pudding, Scotch Eggs, Scotch (Mutton) Pies or Roast Chestnuts.
Thats it full now.
LOL
-
Last bit of filth for you Geordie Boy:-
We have faggots (from Steve, the Buriram Pieman - delicious), scotch eggs 30 Baht and Steak & Kidney PUDDINGS.

Well young man .... You totally disgust me.....Will have to bring my mate with me on Friday....Looking forward to it.....Regretably he is from Dudley, but he knows his Black Puddings LOL

I had a cheese and ham baguette .. real baguette brougt in from Cambodia with real Gouda and ham and veggies ... okay it cannot compare to the stuff you expect from Europe but for me it was a very good experience ... nice premises ... nice good looking staff ... the only inconvenience for me is, is that it's an 100 km returntrip ... that makes your baguette a litlle spendy ... but worth doing it again ... cheers ...

Nok like a Salmon and prawn when its on the menu ,she would love one of these hungry1
-
I imagine that, not unlike NOK, anything that smells of fish has an attraction.
We have some nice smoked salmon that we could toss in with those prawns but it will take the price way beyond the village food vendors price list.
Stingy on the lemons at the moment (30 Baht each in Makro!) and failing on bron bread and lurpak.

Yes...the last time me and Nok had Khao pad goong at the local Thai place I had to play hunt the goong steamingMad, I was told there was one in there somewhere
Like most things in this world ,sometimes you only get what you pay for ,with Coffeecorner though it seems to be quality and at a fair price bravo1

Talking of pastimes Nick, me and Nok like to collect and refurbish Antique & Classic Cameras in out spare-time. Nok has a great collection and one of her favorites is her Rochester Optical Commodore 4x5 (http://www.antiquecameras.net/)."I've spent many a hot afternoon with my face under the hood, flicking away at that button, trying to make those leathery old flaps open up." smilenod
I have a a small Johnson (http://www.johnsoncamera.com/Johnson_Camera/Welcome.html), but it can enlarge to nigh on a foot when it is turned on in a darkened room. The lens cap isn't easy to take off sometimes though, but a few quick twists of the wrist and it comes off in a couple of seconds... it was very stiff this morning though because I haven't had it off in ages. ashamed1
As I said we have a darkroom but you need a special lamp ,mines quite large and glows red at the top

We will be closed from Sunday 1st January.
Re-open Wednesday 4th January.

Brussel sprouts without farting is rather like having Chang without a hangover - i.e. not normal!
-
I have eaten my fair share of brussel sprouts over the years, and cannot recall they have ever induced farting. Christmas pudding though is another matter!

This doesn't change the Sprouts ability to cause flatulence, it just makes them taste better!

Did business for years with a public school food service who proudly served brussel sprouts once a month or so - to the poor little Hoodlums. I constantly asked why the staff was so angry toward the kids to do that to them.

I believe that this is a British Isles tradition based on the Gregorian calendar.
Just because this happens to be a bissextile year I see no reason to alert Mrs CC to this non-Asian/non-Buddhist tradition. :)

Cheeses made in Thailand.
I am about to place an order for some cheese. If anyone wants to 'piggyback' on the order, it will include the following:-
Cheddar.
Red Leicester,
Blue Stilton
Lancashire.
Pepper Jack
Not sure of the exact price but should be less than 100 Baht for a 250g gram pack - the Stilton-type cheese around 150 Bt/250g.
If anyone wishes to order, please PM me in the next 2 days.

Excuse my ignorance Ray, but what is Peppar Jack when it's at home ?
-
Unfortunately, looks like it may be unavailable:-
Pepper Jack: This is the only Non-English Style we do. We were asked to produce this for a customer and though it would make a great addition to our product range. It's a mild cheese with Jalapeno peppers added during the curd stage. As the cheese ages, the peppery flavor intensifies. This cheese melts extremely well, making it suitable for things like quesadillas and hot sandwiches. The moist texture also makes it suitable for grating, so people often sprinkle grated pepper jack cheese on a variety of foods; the cheese pairs especially well with barbecued meats such as beef, and it can be used on burgers, steaks, and various broiled dishes. Pepper jack may also be cubed or sliced and set out on a cheese platter with bread and crackers, and it goes best with slightly sweet white wines, for people who wish to include it in wine and cheese pairings.

Blimey, and there was me thinking it was just another cheese ! Thanks for the enlightenment Ray.....thus proving that old and well worn adage " you're never too old to learn something new " is as relevant as ever.

Scotch Eggs - our first effort at home-made:-
-
Scotch eggs? I remember a pub I used to frequent 40 years ago. There was a jar of scotch eggs on the bar top and I got to know each individual egg well, as I think that over the three years nary a one ever got sold. Your eggs look pretty good and I could be tempted to try one. Good effort

I think you are mistaking Scotch Eggs for Pickled Eggs. Had they kept Scotch Eggs in a jar on the bar anyone foolish enough to buy one would have probably died of food poisoning.
-
dunno. We definitely called them Scotch eggs

I'm with Tommo on this one, I love scotch Eggs
-
dunno. We definitely called them Scotch eggs
I guess it depends on where you come from, many items get a local name, for instance pickled Gherkins are called Wallies or even Dill pickles. I have no doubt pickled eggs got the same treatment. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scotch_egg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pickled_eggs
I wonder what the reaction to the Scotch Eggs would be if you made them using these http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Century_egg it may appeal to the Thai pallet but they taste like to dog shit to me!

This week's Friday Specials are:-
I think this is a very good idea to do this, on a regular basis.

Gentlemen,
With sincerest apologies, but the Pattaya cheese supplier is unable to satisfy 'wholesale' orders at present.
He has just opened a second retail outlet in Pattaya and this has coincided with staff shortages. The greedy git would rather get 410 Baht a kilo retail than satisfy his 'distributor' network at 340 Baht a kilo. That policy may well backfire on him in due course !!
He has said he will advise me things get back to 'normal'.......... i am not holding my breath.
If an alternative becomes available I will let you know (Nookie may well already be on the case). In the meantime, apologies once again for wasting your time.
