I was speaking to a couple of guys from Surin in UptoYou yesterday.
They were in Buriram for, in their words, a beer and a decent shower.
It turns out they have had no mains water for 4 days and counting. In our apartment the water has been a bit slow every now and then but never off totally.
Anyone else had problems like the guys in Surin?

In our Village mains is off and on for around 2-3 weeks now, and when it's on it's VERY VERY dirty with LOTS of SAND.
So everyone is drilling wells !

The guys I was talking to live in the town in Surin. The council have turned off the water all over town. It is not a local village supply. It is the main supply for all of town that is cut off.

Have you seen the water level in Huai Saneng and Ang Ampuen ?? Those are AFAIK the 2 BIG Reservoirs that supply Surin.
The water levels in both of them is (what I've heard) at a Record Low.

When I moved to the Village 16 years ago I had a Well put in,cost 8500 including the pump.In all that time I've had 2 new pumps @ 4k a time .I put in a new one about a year or so ago. The pump looks a bit "Heath Robinson' but works well , I could upgrade but the pumps are still available and its easier to just to unbolt the old one and bolt in a new one .It pumps air down the bore that pushes the water up.You turn on the tap and the pump starts and shuts off when you close the tap. So no tank is needed and the water looks good enough to drink ( though it's never been tested ) and I do drink it ,but clean my teeth in the shower though !
We do have Village Water also,I used it to fill my small pond and the chlorine in the water killed the fish .And if my well pump pack's up then I have a back up. But as iammike has said it's very dirty ,when I filled the pond it left about 5mm of sediment at the bottom of the pond. And to think people wash in that stuff !! sick1
No Water shortages where I am in North Surin province for domestic use but the Rice Fields are looking a bit sad .

Huai Saneng Reservoir is dry.
Photo at pump house. No water for a week for a population of about 50K. A pipeline of 13 km has been laid by the army to pump water from quarries between Prasat and Surin.

WOW it's even worse then I have heard
Thx @GL for the pictures.

Many water reservoirs in Thailand are quite shallow. This severe draught would give a smart government the opportunity to deepen these shallow reservoirs.
