Heavy duty tinting for car windows has become a popular precaution - not to block out the sun but to help protect occupants from rocks being thrown at vehicles.
There has been a spate of stone-hurling attacks in this province, with several people killed and others seriously injured, but only a handful of offenders have been arrested.
The latest incident involved Akhom Premsakul, better known as rap star Joey Boy, who was travelling in a van that was attacked.
Motorists believe tinted film will reduce the impact of a stone thrown at a windshield and possibly reduce the severity of injuries.
Several car accessory shops in the province have seen a rise in the number of customers requesting window safety film.
In a related development, the National Police Office has held a meeting to discuss the rising threats of stone hurling and illegal car racing in four provinces including Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Ang Thong, and Ayutthaya.
It was agreed that police officers in the four provinces would identify spots prone to stone throwing attacks and work harder to identify the suspects.
