MOTO GP
« on: October 13, 2018, 01:41:55 PM »
Good afternoon all
As many know I live far away in Australia and come to Buriram 2 times a year for a month at a time. Hopefully if I can get 'all the ducks in a line' I will be able to spend 6 mths a year here. I enjoy the Buriram Expats website and check it out each day to find out what's going on in the area and possibly also because I miss the place. I guess many others are just like me. I also check the Buriram Times as well. We have just had the Moto GP in Buriram. It was heralded as the biggest thing to hit the area - the greatest thing for Buriram yet a week later not a whisper. In fact when it was on, not much either. Many posts by Up To You and the Bamboo showing pictures of full bars, but that was about it. Just about zero here. I recall panic that there wasn't accommodation and many were prepared to pay 4,000Bt a day. So as an outsider that wasn't there for the event - did the event return the dollars to the community/businesses or did the hype not translate to everyone's expectations.
regards

Yes Wayne ,i too would like to hear of the post race stats and the baht income it brought not only to Buriram but to Thailand , I would also like to see what the bike riders thought of the whole thing.
I met a lot of race fans from all over the globe over the 3 days and they all had praise for the race and for the people of Buriram.

"did the event return the dollars to the community/businesses or did the hype not translate to everyone's expectations."

?The government pays only Bt100 million for licence fee but around Bt3 billion income has been generated in Buriram and nearby provinces only according to my research team,? said the minister during his visit to the Chang International Circuit. ?This is an incredible profit. The government had expected around Bt2 billion revenues would be raised during the event.?

I guess that is a possible yes Wayne

For me, a great 3 days of motogp, It was certainly a bucket list item that will be re visited next year.

Not sure if this is official , but attendance was clocked at  222535 over the days. It certainly felt like it.

The Thailand GP has beat the record for assistance over a weekend this season with more than 220,000 spectators.

According to data released by the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, the Chang International Circuit welcomed over 222535 people over the three days, beating the previous record of 206746 in the Red Bull Ring.

In addition, the public crowd in Buriram on race Sunday was the third biggest flood this year, behind the numbers at Le Mans and Assen.

Here?s the top ten of the biggest attendance this year over the weekend:
1. 222535, Buriram
2. 206746, Spielberg
3. 206617, Le Mans
4. 193355, Sachsenring
5. 187348, Brno
6. 171604, Termas de R?o Hondo
7. 167170, Assen
8. 159120, Misano
9. 155401, Catalunha
10. 150129, Mugello

Not facts and figures I'm afraid but gives an indication.

The PTT official Moto GP Polo shirts were sold out, all sizes on Sunday.
The traders who operated stalls  from all over Thailand seemed to be doing good business with lots of sales.
What was excellent to see was that the food and beverage vendors had not hiked prices by any more than a few baht keeping it affordable for all. As a consequence all were busy and all were selling faster than they could maintain stock.

This was the first for Thailand. If they maintain the same approach whilst making improvement tweaks then the crowds will continue to attend and the businesses will make money.

Overall I thought it was extremely well organized and thoroughly enjoyed the 3 days.

Well thanks all for the newsy responses. Sounds like I missed a biggie. I'll try to get there next year for it. I've only missed it by 10 days this year. I'm glad it made Buriram look professional on the big stage. Footy now Moto GP
