Certificate Of Residence
« on: August 17, 2017, 07:55:47 AM »
Just for info to other members who need one:-

Buriram Immigration Office (unlike KCI) seem happy to provide Certificate of Residence.
Got one day before yesterday. Provided my passport, 1 photo and they checked my wife's ID. Cost was 500 baht.

Is the Certificate of Residence the same as the yellow Card?

I have a yellow card.

Difficult question.

Normally a Yellow Book should be sufficient, but for example Banks want to see a COR (Certificate of Residence). It absolutely depends on where you go, so no straight answer IMHO.

@iammike...for what reason do banks need to see a certificate of residence?

Thanks.

For example if you want to open a FCD (Foreign Currency account). I tried with my YTB (Yellow Tabien Baan) but they insisted on the COR :(

Ps: This is a couple of months old info so things might have changed (doubt it as TiT ;))

I'm applying for my Yellow house book and Lam Plait Mat want a certificate of residence from immigration. They don't accept the Police version. At the Lam plait Mat Ampher Office they actually have a sample of the exact document they require ( I.e the immigration COR).
So for info. If applying for a driving license a Police COR is accepted and this is free or an 'up to you' tea contribution. Immigration have a fixed fee of 500 baht for theirs.

Interesting.

I asked as there was an interesting thread on another forum about opening bank accounts.

Some posts said that you must have a COR to open a bank account.

I have opened 3 bank accounts, one as recently as last year, and have never been asked for one.

I just recently opened a Fixed Deposit account (remember) at my "local" (Big C) branch and there even the YTB wasn't needed. But it's a different ball game if you try to open an FCD, as that can only be opened in a Main Branch and they request the COR (YTB isn't sufficient strange enough).

I will be going sonewhere next week to open a Kasikorn (savings and not FCD) account in Krasang and will report back what they want, either YTB or COR or ....... ;)

Kasikorn is the bank where I opened an account last year.

I know of 2 others that have since opened an account.
