Work or advice wanted
« on: February 04, 2017, 01:19:09 AM »
I currently live in Ottawa, I have taken the last year and a half to travel around the world which has helped me broaden my horizons and my outlook. Please allow me to introduce myself to you as well as provide you with a little information about myself and my abilities.

I have been working with computers for over 30 years and have hardly ever been without one. I have wide range of experience with operating systems from the entire Microsoft range, Mac OS 7.6 to OSX, and Linux, Redhat/CentOS and Ubuntu. I enjoy working with a range of hardware, software and programming languages.

I will be in Buriram late February early March. I am looking  to make contacts and friends in the area.

Thank you

Well nice to have a Canuck among us, I used to visit Windsor often as I lived just across the river.

Sent you a PM on work.

Work involving computers is going to be hard to find here in Buriram.

You have already hinted that you do not want to teach but, if you could be persuaded, then the only chance you would have is in a school that has a full English program. There are not any in Buiriram.

If you were to work for an IT company then you would need to find one that has a staff ratio of 4-1 (4 Thais to one foreigner) and 1 million baht in paid up capital, with full income and business tax receipts for at least one year. Again something you are unlikely to find in Buriram.

Korat or Khonaen would be your best bet in the local area.

I have known 'English teachers' teaching IT in both Technical
collages & Universities but as correctly mentioned above, it will not be easy to find
that type of work.
Thailand is very restrictive in what work it allows
Foreigners to do (legally) and a Work Permit should always be obtained even when a Thai insists that it's not needed.
Best of luck.

You could try teaching English for Special Purposes online via Skype. All of my students are Taiwanese and are mostly electronic engineers and scientists plus a couple of university students. I'm only doing it part-time about 10 hours a week, but there are people out there who make a living from it.
I get paid via Paypal to my UK bank,so I declare the income to the UK taxman and don't get involved with the Thais.
