Buriram Marathon 2017

Just a reminder lads that the Buriram Marathon is happening tomorrow Sunday 12th Feb.

Main marathon starts 4am at Chang International race Circuit. There is a 7 hour time limit, so technically all athletes should be off the course by 11am. Finishes i-Mobile Stadium.

There are 4 races. Marathon, half marathon, mini marathon, fun run. All finished by 11am.

There are several good websites detailing the race route, starting times, prize money etc. Just Google Buriram marathon.

So, there will certainly be road closures around town. Best to check the race route maps to see if anything affects your plans for Sunday.

Results of Buriram Marathon 2017 run on Sunday 12th Feb.

10km mini marathon ... 1831 competitors. Guy from Kenya 1st
21km half marathon  ... 1855 competitors. Guy from Kenya 1st
42km full marathon   ... 1220 competitors. Guy from Kenya 1st (2hr 16min 56 sec)

3,600,000 baht was up for grabs if anyone could better World Record of 2hr 2min 57 secs. Missed by 14mins.

1,000,000 baht was up for grabs if any Thai could better Thai Record of 2hr 19min 33 secs. The first placed Thai came in 6th with a time of 2hr 29min 10sec, so he missed by 10mins.

An unknown number of people jogged the 5.5km fun run also, so 5000+ athletes visited Buriram for this event. Would have generated some useful extra cash around town.
