Bangkok Purple Line Subway
« on: October 31, 2016, 09:22:37 PM »
When I'm in Bangkok I often use the Skytrain or Subway as it can be a lot faster than a taxi.  For example, if you fly from Buriram (BFV) to Don Muang (DMG) you can readily pick up the A1 bus outside the baggage claim door that runs about every 15 minutes and for 30 Baht get to the Mo Chit BTS/Chatuchak Park MRT stations.

I just discovered a new MRT Purple Line is now operational (Aug 2016), unfortunately it is not expected to connect to the existing Blue Line until March 2017.  However, according to a website there is a free shuttle between the lines.

From the website:   Unfortunately there is not yet an interchange with the existing Blue Line, so at the moment travellers will need to take a free shuttle bus between Tao Poon and Bang Sue, the terminus of the Blue line. There are 15 buses in total, and shuttles will leave every 8 minutes, with the 1km journey taking between 7 and 12 minutes, depending on Bangkok’s notorious traffic.

BTW, as an aside, if you fly into DMG and want a taxi I recommend going up a few floors to departures and flag a taxi that is just dropping people off.  I did that a few months ago when the taxi line looked to be over 30 minutes waiting.   A side benefit is that you save yourself 50 Baht.

As usual rather late in the day as Morchit is said to be moved to somewhere near Rangsit in the next year

Well I must have missed all your helpful postings for this information.

And when you say Mo Chit is to be moved, I assume you are talking about the main bus station.   That would make sense, especially in light of of the Skytrain addition being made up in that area.

For those that don't know there is major construction going past Don Muang for a Skytrain connection, very easy to see if you happen to drive by.

I am obviously not as well informed at you that puts out things like "The Bamboo Bar is closing", didn't looked closed when I was in there recently.

Things must look different from your RCI viewpoint.

Looks like the MRT is connected:

A full year after the MRT Purple Line opened, the 1km ?missing link? between the Blue and Purple Line has finally opened in Bangkok. This means passengers can now change trains at Tao Poon, rather than needing to take a shuttle bus and get stuck in traffic.

All the MRT station signs have now been changed to show the Tao Poon line with the extra station after Bang Sue.

Here's a semi updated map and another of what is being planned thru 2029.

I will be in Bankok this month and plan to use at least the skytrain.  I was wondering whether my 3 year old would be charged.  The answer is if the child is over 90cm they need a ticket.
