Vet with assault Rifle Saves Eagle

The vet in this case was former military, not an animal doctor. 


Arizona – -(Ammoland.com)- Jason Galvin spotted an eagle that was entangled in a bit of rope in a tree in Minnesota.  It had been hanging there for two days.


He told his wife, Jackie.  She thought something must be done.


But the authorities, the Department of Natural Resources, the Sheriffs Office, City Hall, the Fire Department, the University of Minnesota Raptor Center, didn’t.  They all gave her the same story. They were tied up in red tape.  No one could do anything, too much liability.  The eagle was already dead.


The only thing they did not say, was “What difference does it make?”


But the Galvins knew different.  Jason is an excellent shot.  He really did serve in Afghanistan.  He thought he could use a semi-automatic rifle, the popular Ruger 10-22, to free the eagle from its deadly entanglement.

Fortunately, the authorities agreed to allow a private citizen to act when they were paralyzed.

It was a team effort.  Once Jason suggested the idea, Jackie insisted on it. He did the shooting.  She did much of the coordinating and support.

Nope, it happens more often than you realize, however the main stream media does not like to highlight those stories.  I'm sure you heard about that Orlando club shooter, but what about the South Carolina Club Shooter?

Lyman, SC – A remarkable incident is being largely ignored by corporate mainstream media – as it doesn’t fit their “guns are bad” narrative. A man with a concealed carry license stopped a mass shooting in progress outside a South Carolina nightclub in the early morning hours on Sunday after an assailant opened fire in a crowed of people, striking and injuring three people.

Jody Ray Thompson, 32, faces multiple attempted murder charges stemming from the incident, according to Spartanburg County deputies. None of the victims’ injuries were life-threatening, according to police.

“His rounds struck 3 victims, and almost struck a fourth victim, who in self-defense, pulled his own weapon and fired, striking Thompson in the leg,” Lt. Kevin Bobo said.

Police said that after getting into an altercation with another man, Thompson pulled out a firearm and began firing into a crowd of people that had gathered near the front of the club around 3:30 a.m., according to WISTV-10.

As Thompson was firing at the crowd of people, one of his would-be victims, with a concealed carry permit, was able to return fire, striking Thompson in the leg and ending the mass shooting in progress.

He "saved" a dead eagle ?

Seems to me that some guy simply shot a rotting bird carcass out of a tree.

Fortunately though, Jason has been to Afghanistan and is an excellent shot. Essential qualifications for shooting dead birds in trees.

Maybe I've missed the point of the news item ?

The branch the bird was hanging from was shot down and the live bird was taken to a sanctuary.

 He finally shot through the branch, about two inches in diameter, and the eagle fell from its entangling, deadly predicament.  It was taken to the Raptor Center.  They named the eagle Freedom, and the Center says it will make it.

Fair comment, Urleft.... but  wouldn't it have been better if neither had had guns?  But I'm not American, and I don't want to start that argument all over again.  We have enough problems of our own in Britain just at the moment.
