Portable or permanent aircon for home?
« on: June 25, 2016, 07:08:19 PM »
Hi Guys,

I need your help with it,

I would like you to share from your experience which aircon do you recommend for village home use

Portable (with water tank inside or without?) or permanent aircon installation for home?
*If portable - What brand?

The KEY factor here is economy on electricity usage.

No idea about portable aircons, but if you wan cheap electric usage, go for an Inverter Type aircon (I use Daikin (my preferred brand for aircons)).

However Inverter Aircons are NOT CHEAP to BUY but CHEAP to RUN.

I think you are confusing a 'swamp cooler' or evaporative cooler with portable air conditioners. Swamp coolers function by evaporating water, only a good idea in a dry environment. I did have a portable air conditioner at one time, worked well enough but was expensive.

Budget to buy: up to 10,000 baht. It's for 1 mid size room.

Mid size room doesn't mean much.

For aircons to be adequate you need sqm to calculate BTU size.

For example 16 sqm (4x4) room x 600 = 9600 (some even use 800 to calculate BTU).  Closes to that is 12k BTU (don't go lower as the aircom would be working hard, and working hard means more electricity usage) as aircons come in sizes like 9k, 12k, 15k, 18k etc etc BTU.

Please note you will be struggling to find an air con 12k BTU for 10.000 THB and that is also energy efficient.

2.00x4.00 meters.
Not so big room.

I need something the family will feel comfortable to use it on same level they are currently using a simple fan.

I kind of thinking more on the portable just don't know if they worth any good..

How about the portable with water tank inside? I see makro have for about 6000 baht.
Any experience with these ones?

Don't get any water filled evaporative cooler. They do not work in high humidity (Thailand) as mentioned above. This is based on my experience.

I have a water tank cooler.

I paid 3000 baht at ThaiWatsadu.

They do work. They work very well.

Hardly any difference in electricity bill.

Then the experiences of other people MUST be wrong if Starman has stated otherwise.

Only 2 drawbacks is that the water runs out after about 3 hours and has to be topped up again and they do intend to be noisy. Unlike air conditioning windows and doors do not have to be closed and they are on wheels and can be moved anywhere with ease, also they do not consume a lot of electricity like air con.

The one that I have does make a bit of noise but jot that much more than a regular fan.

The water tray is large and lasts 3 nights.
