Residency Certificate from Kap Cheong Immi
« on: May 06, 2016, 06:54:33 PM »
Several current topics have suggested that Kap Cheong Immigration will not issue Residency Certificates.

I'm happy to say that last Monday I got a Residency Certificate from KCI.

No problems, however, you will need the following items.

1 - There are 2 x double sided A4 pages of questions, all in Thai language. You will most definately need your Thai better half, or someone that can read, speak and write Thai. That should be easy .... see the next point.

2 - Whoever owns the dwelling that you are living in, needs to come with you. Thai ID and Tabien Baan required.

3 - 1 x passport type photo

4 - Your passport

5 - Your Thai bank book

6 - The name, address and phone number of 3 farang friends. Not Thai's. Stiff shit if you're a loner I guess.

Immigration Investigation Officer processes your request. He's not in the main office. He's in the next door down from the main entrance.

Cost - up to you. Took about 40mins, mainly because of all the questions that your Thai friend will need to fill in on your behalf.

The Certificate is really basic, but importantly has the Immigration logo, KCI details, Investigation Officer name, number and signature, and your name and address.

Don't know why they won't accept Thai driver licence as proof of residence. Would've saved heaps of time and questions.

The new form has arrived at KCI as predicted.

The question is when will they start using it for 90 days and extentions.

3 immigration offices local to Issan already are.

Thanks for the info,Smooth.

My I ask why you needed a residence cert?

Yes. The new "infamous" form.

I was in Kalasin last week and 2 expats had been shown the form at: immigration.

Sorry, wrong day Wednesday the 4th, all the days tend to blend into one when you are as old as I am and drink as much beer as I do

Seems usage of the form is selective. As we see here one person has used it and two were not shown.

Speaking to a few customers of mine and it seems Khon Kaen, Sakorn Nakorn and Amnat Chareon immigration are the same. They sometimes use it and sometimes don't.

Smooth2 - previously I've got certificates of residence from the Buriram Police station which was a very simple process. What are the benefits of obtaining one from KCI, especially if the process is more complicated. I've only ever needed the document for a driving lisence.

In my experience, KCI would not issue a residency 'letter' without a request from the Amphur.  It was an actual letter and not as shown on the photo above.  The letter from the police was not acceptable.  That was for yellow book.  I went to open a US currency account and they refused to accept police cert as well.  Only acceptable documents are from immigration or embassy.  Even with yellow book they want the letter to open an account.

Freddy ... I agree that obtaining a Police Residency Cert was less complicated (eg for Driver Licence application), but if you are requested to provide an Immigration generated Residency Cert, then it's nice to know that KCI will do.

That's really what my initial post was all about.

Thanks, understood . I was just unclear on the difference between the 2 and under what circumstances the Police version isn't acceptable and it has to be from Immigration. Fortunately (to date) I've only been involved in procedures where the Police version is sufficient.
