ThaiRath newspaper are reporting that 21tonnes of beef arrived from India. No import duty was paid.

The beef was found in PMart's warehouse in Nonthaburi. 11 stores in North and North East of Thailand have been visited also.

The warehouse/cool room in Nonthaburi is over 20 rai. 21 tonnes appears to be a drop in the ocean.

BTW.....for those that cannot read Thai, the sign on the door of PMart Buriram forbids taking photos of products. 30000 baht fine if you do.

30,000. Out of curiosity, how would they enforce that. By posting it, would the Police automatically support it.

They have a new PMart in Roi et, when I visited shortly after it opened they had boxes of of NZ lamb on display  in the freezer marked UNFIT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION written in English so I assume they did not realise what it said.  sick1

But if this is how they operate doubt I will go there very often

I must see if I still have the fotos I took on opening day.

I know someone else who saw that in Buriram branch. As in many places in Thailand the translations and spellings leave a bit to be desired.

You only need to look at the menu outside the Bamboo bar.

There used to be a column in the Bangkok post about this being a problem on signs and menus. The finest example being "flied and boil crap"

Rest assured the Thai writing in PMart means what it says.

@Davu...you should be OK. The sign was not there then.

I would trust Makro butchers over anything supplied locally.

That said, I have never had a problem with local market pork or beef tenderloin. Makro fresh pork tenderloin also pretty good.

For half-decent beef I would get from a Pattaya, or Bangkok, supplier with western standards and facilities

I don't understand your post.

Are you saying "fresh that's slaughtered the day before" is good or bad?

We had to slaughter a cow because of an injury, and this time I decided to put some beef in the freezer for a few weeks. (I couldn't eat the freshly butchered stuff from the Buriram Muslim slaughter house, very tough). It turned out quite edible

Have found none of equal or better quality, tenderness, flavor, consistency, convenience, etc.  If I do & it's a better value, would gladly buy it.  Repeatedly driving here and there; shelling out money to be disappointed again and again becomes costly. Frustrating.  Makes me wonder why I keep setting myself up for disappointment.
