GMMZ pay tv
« on: January 19, 2016, 02:26:18 PM »
Hi, does anyone know what will happen with the GMMZ satellite pay tv as it appears they are going to shut down next month. Can the boxes be retuned to say IPM network ? Will it still broadcast thai tv ? Just bought 2 boxes in November none too pleased if they are useless next month.

You can convert the dish to other networks.

How is your internet connection?

I use internet for all TV viewing now.

Yes I thought that too, nookie.

I have only mobile phone internet so sadly that is not an option, starman.

What are the other pay tv satellite packages like, does anyone have a viable alternative, I want premier league football and I already know CTH loose it for next season.

Do you not have internet because there are no cables where you are?

With the uncertainty of certain providers and channels it might be better to investigate internet options for future viewing.

Sadly I am over 2 km from such cables starman in a field 555
I have briefly read somewhere that some people have relaying internet masts but not sure if this rural area has anything like that.

Nookie, I believe the rights have been won by a Korean company and as you say who will they lease the matches to nobody knows yet.

<snip>

I am as Rural as it gets, 18km away from the nearest town and I have "reliable" internet with good speeds at only 6xx THB a month but with a 1 off investment of 17k for the installation of the +/- 17m tower in my backyard. No cables (for ADSL) in my direct neighborhood).

It's called TOT WiNet and should be available at your local TOT outlet.

This is for me the only option (where I live), except of course for 3G

Since Truevisions are currently showing BeIN Sports (CH 179), then maybe they will come to some arrangement with BeIN to show the premiership next season. I'm currently watching the premier league via a RS Sunbox (using my True dish) for a one off payment of 4000 baht for the year. It includes some Fox & Nat Geo channels as well. Last year it was only 1800 baht for the whole year.

Many thanks iammike I will have to look into it. Did you ever do that speed test as I see one poster quoted about 9 - 10 Mbs, is yours the same ?

Toffo you are correct on all counts, I thought Bangkok post said a Korean firm had outbid the Thai ones but then again I am getting on in years 555

Nookie, oh no, the Sky mega bucks clone has the rights how depressing

I can do a speed test for you no problem, but I don't see the point in doing it.

Please let me explain:

At the moment (around 9am) I will for sure get the max speed, but after 4-5pm forget it as then the schoolkids start playing on the net.

Most of the time a download (it most certainly depends where you are downloading from) will come in at full blast 1-1.1 Mbps, but I also had it happen that in the evening I started a 2 Gb (Ubuntu DVD) download and it was downloading at 10 Kbps but early morning it was downloaded.

For InternetTV, I have tried both iLikeHD and ThaiExpatTV, iLikeHD has in the evening too much buffering going on but ThaiExpatTV works (for me that is).

WiNet for me is good and it most certainly beats 3G both speed and money wise.

Ps: here my speed test

I concur about the different speeds at different time of day.

However, I very rarely have a problem with ILikeHD.

I am on 3BB cable.
