Netflix in Thailand
« on: January 15, 2016, 05:32:40 PM »
Well Netflix is in Thailand.  I am up and running.   party6

After long wait, Netflix launches in Thailand, with caveats

http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/general/818868/after-long-wait-netflix-launches-in-thailand-with-caveats

After years of anticipation, internet streaming-video service Netflix on Thursday launched in Thailand as part of a surprise global expansion that saw the US-based content provider flip the switch on 130 new countries overnight.

"You are witnessing the birth of a global TV network," CEO Reed Hastings crowed on stage at the US Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas early today Bangkok time.

The news caught almost everyone off guard because Netflix had previously set a goal of being available in most of the world by the end of this year. It looked like the California company had plenty of work ahead it because it ended December in 60 countries, but not Thailand, where viewers with overseas credit cards and bank accounts have had to use virtual private network technology to watch the tens of thousands of television shows and movies available.

Do you have to use VPN or just log on to US account from there?

I just went to netflix.com, entered the accout email and password, and it came up.

I also put the app on my Galaxy Phone and Kindle, but work fine.  However, I could not get the app on my smart TV to work yet.

If you are able to install the APP on your TV please advise about the process.

Thanks...

I am not positive, but I believe that Smart TV's purchased in Asia have firmware that will not allow Netflix APP. I just use a laptop and connect to to the TV with HDMI cable...seems to work fine

You need a VPN to access more movies from the US

Well I watched the Netflix Daredevil series (really good).

I also have a slingbox in the USA hooked up to cable so I can watch US TV if I want:

Thought so, thanks toffo.  Slingbox is not an option, unless I log into yours...

I recently bought a box that turns my ordinary TV to a smart TV.

If anyone needs a 10m hdmi cable I now have one going. Can't remember what I paid for it but am open to offers.

If anyone is interested in the box you can get one here http://www.lazada.co.th/android-smart-box-mxv-android-smart-tv-2015box-quad-core-full-hd-1080p-media-player-android-44-tv-box-wifi-remote-control-smart-iptv-media-player-black-hdmi-1-2-2431296.html

I also bought a bluetooth mouse and keyboard as the remote is a bit slow when typing.
