You can only get one extension per entry. You may have misunderstood.

You can extend an entry stamp for 60 days for reasons of being married or for having children. Immigration are often reluctant to issue an extension for children if you are also married. The prefer to give the reason of "visiting wife".

This is the 3rd time in 3 years I have done this and I didn't misunderstand you get 1 month for your wife and then go back and get 2 months for your child and having done this twice already just thought I would share my experience cause like most of the crap everyone tells you is better to live from your own experiences

Well that is the first I have heard. I have a wife and child and have only ever been allowed 1 extension per visit. What I posted is from personal experience and the experiences of people that I have helped. Your post is very interesting.

Out of interest how much do you pay for the extensions?

OK. So you changed a visa exempt stamp to an "O" in Bangkok. Then went to Kap Cheong. How much were the 30 day and 60 day extensions?

Well alz55, you certainly are opinionated I'll give you that!!

Even though this is the third time in three years you've done this I believe you're more than slightly mis-informed. Note I am not saying you haven't done what you say, only that between the mix up in terminology and your attitude it's tough to tell.

Your 3 month "family visit" visa was what exactly? Perhaps it was a single entry Non-Immigrant Type-O <-(meaning other)? I take it you got that at a thai embassy somewhere before winging your way in here right OR did you get it in Bangkok for 2000 baht?

You can get that extended at Immigrations for 60 days based on either visiting your thai wife or your children and it's 1900baht. Doing the math, that would have been 90 days from the Non-O and 60 from the extension so a total of 150 days.. So that ain't what you're doin' IF you indeed get 105 days..

And no, flying in/out wouldn't give you a 30 day "tourist visa", good try though!! A tourist visa is something you buy from a thai embassy BEFORE you come here. You'd get a 30 day "visa exempt stamp" because you're flying in. From you saying you'll only get a 15 day visa exempt stamp at a land border crossing, I take it you're NOT from a G7 country? That 15 day land border crossing rule changed last year and people from G7 countries get 30 days entering at land borders too.

FYI: come in on either a 15 or a 30 day "visa exempt stamp" and you can extend that for 30 days at immigrations for 1900 baht. It doesn't make a bit of difference whether you have a wife or kids. After that you could possibly extend it again for 60 days for a wife or kids for another 1900 baht, at some offices because you're extending it for a different reason.

My advice FWIW: work on your terminology, take the GIANT chip off your shoulder and I think you'll do better.. Then again what do I know?

Enjoy..

Okay, thanx for clearing that up.

When you come in on a 30 day visa exempt stamp you can extend it for an additional 30 days for ANY reason for 1900 baht, then when that winds down you go back and get either 60 days to visit your wife or your child..

What bangkok did was give you the 30 day "extend for any reason" AND at the same time gave you the 60 day visit my wife/family.. Just a question, did you pay only 1900 for that here in Bangkok or did you pay 3800 because in reality they gave you two extensions at the same time?

I sure didn't mean to be fractious with you by any means, (sorry, I write pretty hard-core). .

I was just wondering how they were doin' it up in your neck of the woods.

Thanx,
Tod

Just an FYI; IF you come in and out regularly, you can certainly take your marriage certificates (Kor Ror 2 & 3) a copy of your wife's thai i/d card and her listing in the thabian baan (house book), go to Vientiane or Savannakhet and with NO proof of funds, get a year long multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type-O visa based on having a thai wife.. That visa gives you 90 days every time you enter the country for the duration of the visa itself. If you play the dates right you can stay almost 15 months in all.. I think it's 5000baht..
