Windshield Replacement
« on: June 12, 2015, 11:02:35 AM »
Does anyone have any experience of windscreen replacement.

I am buying a new windshield from Ford but they do not fit or arrange fitting. Therefore, I need to find a fitting service.

I would have thought that any of the smash repair shops would be capable of windscreen fitting (?)

Had a windshield on my Ford Ranger replaced at a place about 1 KM west of the Elephant Circle.

However, as Somnat said any body shop should be able to do it for you, I would think you would want one closer to where you live.  In the USA I had them come out to my house and replace a windshield, so it is not that difficult.

But if you want I will try to pin point on the map where I went here, just ask.

Keith, that map would be a great help and I then have a back-stop if I can't find someone near Prakhonchai.

In the UK they would just come to your house and replace within 20 mins or so. In Thailand I have to buy from Ford but they can't fit it. I can take it to their recommended fitter but have to leave it for 2 days - so what do I do - hitchhike the 30km back home ?

Service levels in Thailand are still struggling to get past GO!

Ray,

It is about there before the turn-around.  Fairly good sized place with lots of vehicles so should not be too difficult to find.

However, I am not sure how speedy they are, I know my vehicle was at least there  overnight.

Now if I was more modivated I might look into this as a business venture and start my a mobile windshield replacement service.

Ray, slight correction on the location.  It's after the 1st U turn and before the 2nd U Turn.

Keith,

We actually used someone recommended by the family. He was located just down a lane, on the left, after the gas station after the Ducati showroom (between the football ground and the roundabout).

Quoted 800 Baht, paid 1,000 Baht (as we did not have the required glue) and it is still in after 4 days....  :)

Ray ... why 4 days ? Just curious. I was involved in a vehicle fleet situation back in Oz, and 2hrs in-out was the norm for a windscreen replacement.

Perhaps they cracked the new one trying to fit it ? and are waiting for another ?

No, no Keith... that was a joke... the windscreen hasn't fallen out yet after 4 days i.e. it is "still in"  ;D

Ford in Nang Rong recommended someone and said we would have to leave the car for 2 days, another Farang said he had to wait 12 hours to collect the car. I took mine i at 9.00 am and itwas ready by4pm.

G'day Ray .... confused ? you bet. Every time I pull up at a red traffic light, I'm the only bastard that's stopped !!

And I still haven't discovered the secret of getting my golf ball safely over the water on the 2nd hole at Buriram Golf Course. Stupid game.   :D      But I keep coming back twice a week anyway. Golf balls are cheap  555

Apart from that ... everything is hunky dory. Even the local charcoal burning lady says "u hansome man"   :D

You know you've really hit the big time when that happens.      :o      My girlfriend thinks it's hilarious.

My mistake about your car. I thought you meant it was still in the workshop after 4 days. Good to hear that it's sorted anyway. Cheers.

That is only because it is low season.  Will she still call you hansome man in December?
