Rib eye beef steak Tops Supermarket

As there has been a bit of "beef" discussion on the "P Mart raided" thread, I thought I'd throw my hat in the ring also.

The nicest beef steaks I've had in Buriram have been purchased in Tops Supermarket in M.Buriram

They are beautifully marbled, very tender, flavoursome Rib Eye steaks 250g for 329 baht.

Yes ... I know they are a bit expensive, but it's a nice treat every couple of weeks, and a good steak is worth paying a bit extra for.

Each 250g steak is individually vacuum packed in plastic.

They are in the frozen meat display cabinets. (The freezers with all the sauces etc stacked above them)

I've attached a photo of tonights dinner defrosting.

I personally know Tops head butcher, Simon  in Bangkok, and he told me  all the beef is sourced from Australia and the lamb from Australia and New Zealand. This being the case, all the meat should be of A1 grass fed quality.

Currently, I can not read Thai. I would appreciate it if someone could clarify the significance of the two fields that look like dates as they look like they are well gone.......since today is 3-2-2559

IMHO it's more worrying than that. If the QA cannot detect a simple typo, then what else goes undetected?
For a simple Mam&Dad operation it's understandable, but for bigbiz it's a NONO

It is obvious that since 2515 and 2516 are some 500 years into the future that the labeler in Thailand had his date stamp incorrectly set.
If the real date of packaging began on 29-07-2015 and the expiry date of 25-01-2016 is correct then according to the label then the steak would be 9 days out of date if it was eaten today.  But we really don't know what date the steak as displayed was photographed and on what day it was eaten. Beef Steak retains its quality and flavor for six to 12 months when frozen properly. So if my humble calculations are accurate then he could have continued to freeze the steak for approximately another 6 months.  I expect that he enjoyed the steak and will not keel over from the dates stamped on the packaging.

Vacuumed packed beef will apparently last 3 years or more if kept continuosly frozen, without loss of flavour or quality.

No .... I'm not a meat head brainiac (no pun intended 555) ..... I asked Mr Google.

The couple of steaks I had for dinner last night were absolutely 1st rate. Everything I hoped they would be for 329 baht a pop.
