Coffee beans, where to buy?
« on: December 15, 2014, 02:50:39 PM »
If I happen to land upon a bag of coffee beans that are producing decent coffee, you can be sure that next time I go into Makro or BigC they have disappeared. I used to order from a Doi coffee grower in Lampang (expensive- ฿500.-/ Kg i think) but her quality has gone down also. The last stuff I bought in Makro is going into the bin, tastes like dish water, so it's beer for breakfast for now.
Arabica beans, unground, none of your three in one rubbish, I am desperately looking for COFFEE. Any ideas, apart from adding whiskey and falling asleep? Espresso not really an option as I drink at least three cups before emerging from my coma.

The wife gets her from Bon Cafe in Korat. They ship.  http://www.boncafe.co.th/en/contact-us/branches/

Got a couple of friends "up North", who swear by the Red Cliff homegrown brand.

Also fast and free shipping.

I recommend on bon cafe, mocca flavor.
They will deliver coffee by special delivery to your house or by train and you pick it up by yourself.
Good service, good price.

One more tip, if you happen to pass korat and you have time, you can stop by in their branch and have a test to taste few flavors before you decide.

I just realised that I have actually been in this shop when I was looking for a coffee grinder (my ex wife sent me the old one we bought 40 years ago). Anyway you do find things out slowly, I remember when I first came to Buriram and Home Mart (the mai me shop as we call it) told me they didn't have any nails for sale (they do actually) and I gave some thought to going back home again. We don't go to the mai me shop any more.

I've been using Red Cliff coffee beans for about 7 months.

Well, 5 weeks later I made it to the Boncafe place in Korat. I bought 1 Kg Mocca as recommended by the Admin here and 1 Kg 'roasted coffee beans'. The Mocca is STRONG coffee, I'll see what happens when I get my fix tomorrow made on our primitive apparatus. Thanks again.

Where can I get paper coffee filters in Buriram. I've tried Big C and Makro with no success

We started like that but the filters are much too fine, the coffee takes ages to drain through. We finished up buying a coffee plunger at Makro. At the time they were labelled 'Tea Pot' so keep your eyes skinned, on the left somewhere as you go in. These are really cheap and you get what you pay for.

If my memory serves me right, I bought filters in the mall in Korat davu. They also sell coffee beans and ground coffee.
Even Makro sells coffee from Bon Café.

Tricky. Sometimes they have Boncafe in Makro Buriram, sometimes not. The filter paper I have found here is much too fine and strains VERY slowly. I don't like lukewarm coffee. I went through Makro Korat very carefully and didn't find anything I wanted, ground coffee? Generally that's all you can find, basically because you can't find a coffee grinder for under ฿3800.- in Thailand. Coffee snobs like me want  coffee, ground today and preferably roasted yesterday. I bought my coffee grinder for ฿700.- in Switzerland 40 years ago, very simple, still works.
We now plan to go to Korat every two months or so to buy coffee at Boncafe  and wander around the Mall.

I'll let you know when I am brewing my own beer.
