Connecting Electricity

Hi there just wondering has anyone had any experience or knowledge about getting power connected to a house. I have built a house on farm land which is 1.5 klms from the last power pole in the village. I have been told that since it is over 1klm that i will be required to buy a transformer as the power want be a strong enough supply without it. just wondering has anyone else done a simillar thing and how much they were charged by the government to do so. The price i was quoted was 1 Million baht to run the power from the government so 500,000 baht i would have to pay also 100,000 baht for the private contractor to connect it to the house plus 194,000 for a transformer. Is that  the normal pricing or the he is a farang price. Interested in all opinions. Thanks in Advance

Thats more like it. Thats the approximate price even  a Thai will pay. By your original post your house has been built. This is an expensive mistake. Wish you the best.

Did mine about 2 years ago.

In my naivety I thought we had power cables running past the front of our land. We did - but it was high voltage. We needed a transformer to step down the supply for our use. PEA took cable from across the road and put in 2 x 8 metre?? posts on our land.

I think the cost was just over 200,000 Baht. I paid another 20k for labour to put up about 5 x 4m sows and take cable from the last PEA point some 200m to our house.

About 225,000 Baht all in.

PEA were very helpful and once I realised they were not trying to rip me off all was OK.

Just a thought . . . . . seems to me it would be worth while to look into going "off the grid".  Had a neighbor do that (in the USA) last year; cost - about $7,000; and no more electric bills.
