I most probably need some new glasses and would like to know the procedure in Thailand to get them.

In the UK you can just go to any old shop and buy them, they test your eyes in front of you (surprise surprise) and off you go.

In France you have to go to a specialist first who tests your eyes and then gives you a prescription to go to a shop to buy them.

So if someone can tell me what the procedure is and somewhere to go in the Nong Din Daeng / Lahansai area I would appreciate it.

I just got a pair of progressive lenses at Home Pro in Buriram.  Just walked into the place, they checked my eyes and 2 weeks later it was ready for pickup.  And there seems to be a lot of these type places around town. 

Will have to defer to someone in your immediate area to for specific recommendations.

To get there....Bangkok Bank on the corner. Turn right and head towards the fresh market. Continue straight on at the junction. The optician is about 200 yards down on the right. The window display is full of glasses, watches and clocks.

They have all of the testing equipment and your glasses will be ready within the hour.

Of course, there's always "Top Choeron" (spelling?)...and a million of them around, it seems.  I've used them a couple of times, and they always had the glasses ready within an hour or two, as well.  They seemed a bit "pricey" last time, however!

Eye glasses cost in Thailand is over the top. What cost you back home say 600 USD will set you back 1000 USD in Thailand. That said if you have no choice and have to purchase eyeglasses in Thailand the above advice is all good.

@GL - you should try France. 740euros for a pair of progressive lenses sunglasses - ok you can get cheaper, but they are still a rip off as the opticians have a monopoly and most people get them paid for by the work insurance (mutuelle).

@urleft, if you don't mind sharing how much did you pay for your progressives from HP. If you could split the cost out by frame / lenses that would be perfect.

I had a problem with the frame, but lenses seem equal to what I had in the states.

correct on the left when heading towards nong ki also if you back up a little and go down the first side street towards the market theres another optician about 30 metres down on the corner (could be cheaper) not sure about progressive lenses but for standard glasses i paid 13000 bht at top chareon
