Flower Show
« on: August 06, 2014, 10:33:43 PM »
Last weekend I visited the flower show at Playlaploen Resort in Khu Mueang.

I can highly recommend the place as an interesting half day out for your family. We spent around 2.5hrs looking at the flower display pavilions. There has been a VERY big investment in this place, and the displays were quite beautiful. The pavilions and associated buildings are all very new.

According to their brochure, there are displays all year round, with subtle changes to the flower arrangements during different seasons. Currently it's tulip time.

The pavilions are WAY up the back of the complex, and not very well signposted. At least 500m walk from the main entrance gate on the highway. Keep walking right through the childrens play area, then over the lake, then follow the footpath to the BIG pavilions, which you don't really see until almost upon them.

I suspect that many many visitors would wander around the childrens play area, and completely miss the flower display way up the back. Later, they would be very upset if they realised what they had missed.

Entrance fee to Playlaploen is 150 baht adults (80 baht kids). This includes the childrens area and flower pavilions.

The Resort is at the far northern end of Khu Mueang township, on the right hand side. Enjoy. We did.   thumbup

I visited on Tuesday and, like Smooth, I thoroughly enjoyed the greenhouses of tulips, orchids etc.

I was less convinced about the earlier part with so-called replicas of the Eiffel Tower, Great Wall of China, Big Ben etc. They are poorly built/presented and add no value to the overall experience.

I fully accept the objective of appealing to school children (get them out of the classroom and experience nature) but I am not convinced that the first part of Play la Ploen does that.

Don't get me wrong, at 150 Baht this represent a very good use of 2/2.5 hours and is a nice attraction. The investment has been significant and the overall site is over 200 rai.

It is a cross between Kew Gardens and Charlie  Mannings aging amusement park. Beauty and tacky mixed together. There is huge potential for improvement that would make it a superb adult/child/environmentally friendly nature park.

It is good that this attraction exists in Buriram

43km from Big C.

Go back towards town and turn left at the first set of traffic lights. Keep going straight.

They are doing road works at Khu Muaeng and Play la Ploen is on the right just after them. Park outside the 'main entrance' and walk in to get you ticket just on the left.

If you keep going straight your going to end up in a shop house at the end of the by-pass north of Barn Sanoh.

I suggest you turn right at the 3rd set of lights then keep going straight.

I would be inclined to turn left at the third set of traffic lights.

My mistake - that is what I actually did (I think it is signposted).

Google directions shows it as a direct route all the way on the  204.

Worth a visit.

Dead quiet when we were there but I think it will be more lively at a weekend - especially with Mothets Day coming up.

I want to make a concrete pole into a fake palm tree.

1.  Would this place have plastic leaves?

2.  Does someone have viable alternatives, such as a recommendation that has alread been done?
