If your asking about a Thai Drivers license you can renew up to 1 year past its expiration date, not like back home.

For a 5 year renewal you can do it up to 3 months beforehand (for a 1 year to 5 year 'renewal' it is 60 days).

Don't know about GL's comment (you will have possibly been driving on an expired licence). I have asked the question on Thai Visa.

I do. They do not consider it the same a we do. and CO-COs advice is correct if your on a yearly extension or a 12 month visa. if your on a 30 day visa exempt or a tourist visa they will only give a 1 year temporary dl. You will still need another CR and a 50 baht medical from your local clap clinic aka bone doctor. BTW if your on a 5 year dl and and you go over the 1 year grace period for renewal back to square one, a 1 temporary dl.

I'm not sure CoCo's info about going from a 1 year to a 5 year is correct,as far as  I am aware if you go before the expiry date on the1 year you will only be issued with another 1 year.

May not be right but sounds fair sure.

Some LTD'S stated doing as CC says about 3 years back. Locally Surin and Prasat does. I thank Buriram also but need to confirm. The problem is not all do. And it does make a big difference what kind of visa your on as to getting only a 1 year temporary or a 5 year dl.

I went from 1 year to 5 year in 2009.

They were not interested in which visa I had but would not issue a new licence until AFTER the previous one had expired.

Same for me but it was 2007, not before, not on the date, but after the due date. Times have changed and I thank you'll find most LTD's are as stated now. Key word MOST. BTW your up for renewal.

You will be OK. Same paper work required as your first. You can give it ago now as there is good chance the ltd will renew now.

GL, am I right in thinking that he will not need a Health Certificate for this renewal.

Also, I doubt Binnsy has gone to the beach on his scooter so no risk of Mr Plod catching him out.

Cooked, was yours a 1 year to 5 year or a 5 year renewal ?

I accept that no two offices are the same but these posts are from Thai Visa (presumablt Jomtien/Pattaya):-

Could I have one point of clarification, please. I am renewing my 5 year license to another 5 year license. Will I need a medical certificate? The gentleman who started this thread said no, but he was the only one who was going from a 5 year to another 5 year. All other examples were from a 1 year to a 5 year and stated you did need one. Should I go ahead and get a medical certificate just in case?

    Thanks!

I did 5 year to 5 year with no medical

I did a 5 year to a 5 year as well and no med cert was asked for.  Also, as I've stated before, if you show up like a week after your current 5 year expires (on your bday I assume) then they will give your next license that will expire 5 years + 11 months from when you renew.  So you get nearly 6 years.  The expiration for a 5 year is always based on your bday and set to expire 5 birthdays away.
