Seeking truck Buriram > Phitsanulok
« on: June 26, 2014, 10:40:25 AM »
Hi Board-

I got a new job in Phitsanulok and need to move there as soon as possible.  Does anyone know a big truck + driver that you can recommend?  I have to move:

Me, my two dogs, one motorcycle, a refrigerator, a washing machine, two wooden closets, a bed, a matress, two folding tables, and of course my clothes and household belongings.

The truck would travel from Buriram City to Phitsanulok City in one trip.

Does anyone know who I can ask for a quote?  Thank you for any information.

-Mitch

P.S.  I have already contacted Buriram Expats to request a quote from them.

Have a man from the village where my wife is from,he said he would do that for you,and the total cost would be 20,000 Baht, for which i think is a reasonable quote.
Would you be interested in that.

20K for a rice farmer and his state of the art truck truck, WOW - are you new to Thailand?

Why don't you hie a truck and do the trip your self.  You can hire a pick up truck anywhere - even in your village / town and do it yourself in two trips - its only about six hours from Buriram.  If you pay 20K you are only letting the locals (some farang) take the mick out of you and its knock on effects are felt by all.  You must know a farmer where you live - or if not, your wife will.  My wife hired a bus from Cham Ni to Leoi - (return) - for a wedding and it was only 9K, so think about the price before you commit yourself to any offers - don't get ripped off.

Good luck.

Yeah,  unfortunately a pickup truck is not enough.  If I use a pickup truck it will be three trips for sure with all this stuff plus two dogs that cannot be left alone for long.  I'll need a six-wheel truck, which will cost more than a pickup.  Right now I already have offers of 17K and 15K, which still seems high.  So I'll keep working on it.

Just hire a small pantec truck in Buriram, you know the size of an ice delivery truck, ask at Buriram car rentals? THEN get your wife or someone,to grab 3 or 4 local villagers where you are, offer 300baht each to do the move and a couple of bottles of Thai Whiskey when they finish to sweeten the deal, and job done for maybe 3000baht including fuel, easy.

3 years back Chiang Mai to Kap Choeng 920 km 10 wheel truck 20,000 baht. Your trip is shorter by 250 km so 15 to 17 k is fair.

I'm assuming there is only one Phitsanulok in Thailand ?

Some of the suggested "prices" are totally unrealistic. Transport is my "game", and I know how to cost a job like Mitch's request. Admittedly not in Thailand, but the principles are the same everywhere. Start with fuel expense.

Buriram to Phitsanulok is close enough to 500km one way. (That's 1000km round trip for the mathematically challenged)
Even though Mitch only needs a oneway trip, someone has to pay for the empty truck to get back to Buriram.

An 8 ton truck (6 wheeler) will get approx 5km per litre of fuel. That's 200 litres for the round trip x 33 baht per litre = 6600 baht for fuel alone.

A bigger truck will only get 3km per litre = 11000 baht for fuel.

(Even my little Vios car would use nearly 3000 baht fuel for this round trip.)

Then comes the other factors like driver wages, wear & tear on his truck, little bit of profit etc etc. It all adds up, and of course the customer is paying for it.

Fuel is far away the biggest expense, but of course the truckie will want to make a bit also. That's what he does for a living. As a very rough guide, most quotes should work out around double the anticipated fuel expense.

I would think that a 500km truck journey would take considerably longer than 6hrs, as has been suggested ?

Sold!

Just closed a deal for 12,000.  I have to pay for any grease at police stops along the way there (which I'm told can happen any time the load is covered, even if you're just carrying personal belongings like us) and I have to give something to the extra guy who will help load and unload.  Yeah, according to google the trip is about 540 km and takes basically 7 hours.  That was exactly how long Nakorn Chai Air took, too.

Since two other people quoted 15,000 and wouldn't go any lower, and since this guy seems responsible and skillful and has made the route before, I'm comfortable with the final price.

The funny thing is, we made contact with this fellow when I just went up to the window of a random 6-wheeler filling up at the Esso station and asked if the guys inside knew anyone who could make the trip.  This fellow is a friend of the random 6-wheeler driver.

Smooth2- Interesting info!  Thanks!

When I moved to a safer place for the dogs last month (within Buriram) it was two full and stuffed pickup truck trips.  NOW there is also the large motorcycle and a second large wooden wardrobe and a bed and a matress and the two dogs and more general stuff.  There is no way we can do it with a pickup, even with two trips.  It would be three trips, and who wants to make a 14-hour roundtrip three times?  The six wheeler is necessary.

The price for the rice farmer was 13,000 Baht, I put on 7,000 Baht for myself has a handling fee.
After  all I don't know the man and I was just trying for a slice of the pie.
Nothing ventured nothing gained.

How do you know this guy is responsible and skilful if you only meet him in a service station filling up his 6 wheeler.
I am sure there will be additional expenses along the way.
I wish you luck, looks like you might need some.
