First I heard of it, if true I think that people already here under the old rules will be grandfathered in as they were when the raised the retirement visa requirements.

Where did you get this rumour from, please?

It's a good thing,it makes sense to show the same money in the bank for marriage,if people are serious about looking after their wife's then it shouldn't be a problem in proving it to the authorities.

I was told this by a fellow expat who said he read this in a newspaper but unfortunately this news paper has been thrown out ,
I never said this was a good or a bad thing i was purely asking IF this rumour had any substamce and if it did then i would indeed have to put more money into my bank account here at renewal time
But as nobody seems to be aware of this i shall treat it as another peice of hear say and carry on as planned

There is no change for EXTENSIONS.

VISA (ie issued outside of Thailand) requirements have changed

Good  post Ray.
As long as people don't understand the difference between a VISA and an EXTENSION OF STAY, there will always be confusion....

Unfortunately I have heard that groups of expats are undermining Thailand "visa" requirements by gaming the system.

1.  Some come into Thailand finding a TG, marry her, pay her off and get an extension.  However, the perps are not normally Europeans or Americans.

2.  Of course the guys that come and overstay, sometimes for years.

3.  The "students" that pay the money, enroll in classes, and never go.  Not sure that is a great issue because as long as they expat is paying his was it should not be a hardship on Thailand.

Other?

So I expect enhanced inforcement.  Would not be surprised to see the 800K for marriage extensions, or the that 800K has to be in the bank for a year.  They already have "visa" agents checking up on 1st time marriage extensions, the next step would be random checks.  And as part of all extensions, including a map to your residence with the extension paperwork.  The people that do it legal end up paying for those that abuse the system.

Your not reporting anything new. This has been going on from day one. As for an increase of funds this comment has been tossed about every bar and forum in Thailand for years and will continue to be so as posters can not get that Pattaya bar stool unstuck from their asre. ;)
