Dill Pickles Anyone? Have extra for sale.
« on: November 23, 2013, 06:53:57 PM »
Just made a batch of very dill pickles hungry1 , experimented with Thai Jars from Makro, unfortunately they did not seal correctly.  This means I would need to keep them in the refridgerator, 6 jars take up a lot of space.
They will be ready to eat Sunday 24 Nov.
So if anyone wants some pickles, let me know.  100 baht a jar.  Free sample before you buy, money back if not satisfied.
Here are pictures of the products, some include pickled onions.

I was noticing a redish tinge color at the bottom.  I believe this is due to the little red onions I added.  In this picture the jars at either end (which sealed correctly over a month ago) do not have that coloring.  If you look at the jar of onions, you can see the coloring is being lost.

I tried a sample from a jar the did not seal correctly after only 5 hours, and it was becoming very tasty.  I am working to get the pickles to how I like them.    I have 2 dozen mason canning jars so I make several jars at a time.  So far 5 different expats (2 Americans, 2 Brits and a German) have appreciated and walked away with my pickles.   hungry1    The Brit told me today I should sell them.

Hi where did you get the canning salt  I have been pickling onions and dill  for some time but only for personal use.  The canning jars did you get them here  I have been using the pickling jars from Macro and have found similar probs with seals.

Uleft    I have also been using screw top jars and recycled coffee jars   Although not the best option they seem to serve the purpose okay   I will post some pictures of my dill pickles, onions, pickled eggs. sweet tonmato chutney and chillie/garlic tomato chutney later.  The picles have all been done in vinegar with added spices. I will try using salt as you prescribed

The Saxa Sea Salt is in Makro where they sell pepper and spices, not with the regular salt.  The pickling salt pictured I brought from America.

The Jars I recycle are Ball Canning Jars, again from America.

One other thing I recommend trying to get (I just had a guy from America bring me one last week) is Pickle Crisp.  Makes what you can crisp instead of mushy.  I forgot to add it the last time I canned resulting in mushy pickles.  However, good luck in trying to get some.

Another recommendation for you Mike.  If you look at the picture with the canned onions, notice the dark shape middle right of the onions?  That is dill seed wrapped in cheese cloth.

On the previous canning I let the dill seeds free float, they get stuck to the pickles, makes for messy eating.  Marko has cheese cloth.  If you decide to get cheese cloth, also get some cotton string to wrap the cloth.

Sure, come on by, give me a call first and if I won't be home, will have them waiting for you.

Sold 3, have 3 left.  Unless you can sweet talk me out of my stash.  Mahdam made off with the Onions which I didn't plan to sell.

Wow, did I make a great batch of pickles (gherkins).  hungry1   I used my home grown cucumbers (from US seeds) and American fresh grown dill.  I am also experimenting with onions, the Brits told me they are excellent.

I have been using dill seeds from Makro, or last time I used the dill plant.  What I really want to use is the dill flower.  Have not had much success growing US Dill here, but looks like things are about to change.  I have several plants about to flower. As I took the picture a breeze came bringing me scent of fresh dill.

Unfortunately all my cucumber plants have died, so need to replant.

Hopefully next month I'll be able to make another batch with homegrown cucs and home grown dill flower.
