Try A WOMAN OF BANGKOK by Jack Reynolds, his seminal novel of 1956 that set the bar for Bangkok bar girl stories.  It has been recently republished by Monsoon Books with an introduction by yours truly telling the strange story of Bangkok Jack who published this fine novel in New York and London to worldwide acclaim and then apparently disappeared from view.

Then of course if you're interested in how it is to settle down with a lady in her Isaan village, you should read MY THAI GIRL AND I.  It's not about Buriram but Surin isn't so different.

Did she make you truck in thousands of tons of soil and build a hideous wall right round the house too?  If so reading the book may be a waste of time or it may give you some psychological support.  For a mildly cynical view of the farang/Thai dilemma, I hope you'll enjoy it.

When I first moved to Thailand and lived in Koh Samui I built my first house here.I had no wife or Girlfriend but brought in 90 trucks of soil to raise the land to stop any flooding and I built a wall around the house to keep the local Buffalo out of my swimming pool.
Sometimes raising the land and building a wall makes sense  ;)
