A small ATM in Buriram gave me my money and didn't give me my card back. Hard luck, said Bangkok Bank, we can't get it back for you. I now no longer have access to my foreign bank account which is a bit of a blow as I emptied my Thai account a few days ago. 1 200.- Bahts available until I get a new card. Presuming our friendly postman , 'Longfingers Somchai' delivers it.
So I learned to get money from a ATM outside bank that is open.

Nook : the bank will do that if your official domicile is in Thailand. Banks are obliged to send the new ATM-card and pincode to the persons domicile. I had my domicile in Thailand for some time a few years back and the send everything to me here in Lahansai by registered mail.

A bit late on parade here,  but where is the foreign bank ?

Croc - some UK banks will not post cards to Thailand as it is regarded as a "fraud hotspot".

They have obviously been to Lahansai !  :)

A few years ago rural branches of Kasikorn seemed pretty old fashioned but have now upgraded themselves and provide a good modern service.  I would trust their competence highly.

I could have helped out, as I have done with others, had it been the UK.

I agree - that has also been my experience.

I cannot say the same for my  dealings with a rural branch of Bangkok Bank

Nothing is infallible but in 31 years in banking I never experienced an ATM giving out the wrong amount
I was in Bangkok about 6 years ago and went to the ATM at 7/11 in sukhumvit soi 4.
I went to withdraw 10,000 baht but the ATM paid out 19,000 ( a bit skewiff I may add ).I slid the money into my wallet with a big smile on my face thinking to myself 'what a result'
Then two Swedish girls came over to me and asked if the ATM had worked OK for me,they then told me they had tried to take out 10,000 baht but the ATM had only paid then 1000 baht.
I told them it was their lucky day and handed them over 9,000 baht and explained how the ATM had over-paid me

Don't you think you should tell us how the two Swedish girls expressed their grateful appreciation to you?  After all you were in Soi 4... they might at least have bought you a Macdonalds.
