Tried to contact the ex about the passport issue, but no luck.  Best I remember is that we left HER passport because it had to be stamped by customs with "Thai returning home with used goods" which can only happen once.  She got the passport back in the mail at home town no problem.  I do remember thinking it was quite odd, but I think that a lot when over there.
Thais don't have a legal requirement to carry their passport only their ID card.A farang does have & is required to carry their passport at all times

and the farang does not own the passport, his/her country does and its illegal for you to surender it.

You would have had a major problem if you had been asked by the BiB to produce it!!

Anyway all sorted my belongings arrived this morning as promised with my passport all safe and sound so only 3000 baht changed hands in total after my initial shipping fee from england of £655
