Rape in US military

The US Military Joint Chiefs have been called to testify to the Senate on what they are going to do about the rising number of female military personnel, being raped by their superiors. 

I spent 4 years in the military before there was much, if any, mixing of the sexes.  Being a horney 20 year old male sailor, this segregation was a pretty good idea.

Seeing this story on the news, it occurred to me that separate units and separate duties is what the US military should go back to.
 
I would appreciate the opinions you career military guys. Also Is this a problem in the Europeans Military or just a US problem.
