Buriram was very arid about  50-60 years ago same as many provinces in Isaan area.
The farmer didn't have rice to eat and water to drink, they have to dig hole in the fields, put the mud to the hole then tread by foots until the mud are compact and they can drink the water on the top when the water are clear.

Or put the mud inside the bamboo canteen and pound until the mud are compact and they can drink the water on the top when the water are clear.

Buriram right now, we don't have to pound for the water.
Here are flying birds, and here are sticky rice in the fields.
