Thanks to all of you for the good information that you provided.. It was an eye opener.. Will get things sorted out once we get there.. The wife said the only wifi tower she saw that was close was in Non Suwan and that's 7km away from where we'll be.. We already knew it was going to be slow.. We just didn't realize it was going to be that slow if you can get access at all.. But thanks again for all the good info..

I  have the same provider as Nookie
Attached is a speedtest.
The fastest download speed I've had is 10.99 Mb....for 500 baht a month
Also the install cost varies...mine cost 8500 baht which included a wireless N router....it just depends on exactly what is needed at your installation

Thanks for all the good info.. Would like to meet up with you once we are back in the LOS..  The 2 things I'm looking for is enough horsepower to stream video (Skype) and do my online banking..

A connection like mine would more than meet your requirements.

When you get back, come to Nookie's gaff on a Sunday and you can talk to at least 4 lads who have the same ISP. You can also have some good banter and put the world right over a few beers....Check out his website for directions to his house...

Sadly where I am my ONLY options are True Move 3G or TOT. True Move has got to be the most inconsistent download speed in the world. It varies from "now" to "maybe sometime later if you don't time out first". There are some very technical reasons for this which would bore the pants off the most reluctant.... I now have a TOT mast (19M) and download is faster than ADSL UK. I appreciate, and am most grateful for, the good advice from others, in particular Nookie, but I am in a location not supported by the favorite ISP. Cost of TOT is 20K for the mast and 590/month (10M/526K unlimited). My dissatisfaction will be for all to see when the time comes.

Nookie. We may well be over to your place sometime soon just to make sure the cider is made from Somerset apples. Is it a fact that its at its best on a Sunday lunchtime?

Looks like I might have found an answer to my internet issues.

"Booster box" from cousin's TOT mast 4km away to receiver on a mast at my end.

Waiting for final details but looks like 16/18k all  in.

Just for giggles I ran the speed test here and came up with  31/16.. So Yeah... This will be one rude awakening once we get to the LOS.  Especially true because I have one kickass machine.  I'm running an ASUS 3.4 quad core, Win 7 64 bit, 8GB on board memory, NVidia 1gb GT530 Video card, and 2 SATA hard drives with a total of 3 TB of storage on them.. I'm a computer geek and until the prices of the machines went lower then the price of the parts to build them I used to build my own computers.  I would love to see what a mast looks like because I know that Pon isn't going to want a big tower on the side or back of the house.  So if anyone has a picture of one of these masts then please post it.  Thanks...

If you decide to come on any other day best ring to make sure I'm at home.....

Sorted  redman

Cost 21,000 Baht as I had an additional box so I can get wifi in the garden.

Will pay uncle 350 Baht a month for sharing his TOT service.

Speeds at the moment: Ping 36 ms Download 7.29 Mbps, Upload 0.51 Mbps

I can work with that - maybe keep up with the football fixtures.  :)
