Interesting story today from Peoria (Illinois)
Seems a family dropped in some film at Walmart for developing. The employee processing the film noticed some photos depicting the family girls naked and cuddling each other at bath time.
The 3 girls were 5, 4, 1 yo Seems innocent enough. The employee disagreed.
He notified his manager, who notified the Police Dept, who notified Child Protection.
The couple lost custody of their 3 girls for a month, their names were added to a Registry of Sex Offenders, the wife lost her job as a local school teacher for a year, their family name is now plastered all over the Internet.
Eventually, after a lengthy courtcase, the couple were totally 100% cleared of any wrongdoing, and the photos were deemed harmless.
The couple are now suing Walmart.
I think this is an interesting story because it has real 2 angles to it.
1st ... Everyone involved was trying to do the right thing. Protect the innocence of the girls. Very commendable. But in the end, they were wrong, and now should be held accountable for their actions. Sue Walmart ? Hell yes ... go for it !
2nd ... Regardless of the outcome of the lawsuit, what will Walmart, and particularly the employee, do next time when confronted with "disturbing" photos ? It will be an interesting decision for him-her to make. Notify someone, or not ? Put yourself in that position. What would you do ?
