Once we get the 4 Thailand/Singha All Stars senseless meaningless games out of the way.

Then we can get back to the more important issues of the Thai premier league.

buriram_united buriram_united buriram_united

The only games that will have Buriram United players are Liverpool and Barcelona as the Singa Allstars do not have players from Chang sponsored teams.
Yes at least our boys will get a bit of a break, but in all honesty i think the whole thing is a waste of time. buriram_united

The paperwork for Masahito Noto were not ready in time, why he couldn't be registered for the FA Cup. Now Buriram may loan him to Chainat FC.

What if Worawi Wins?

Already being compared unfavourably with the schizophrenic Indonesian football setup, where rival Football Associations score points against each other whilst their national team doesn’t, Thai football is assembling all the ingredients for its own Molotov cocktail: all that is missing is the spark.

The widespread and vocal feelings of ill will towards former (but still in office) Football Association of Thailand chief Worawi Makudi cause paralysis where, yet again, projects such as academy football and a permanent national coach lie dormant. But, whilst there may be no action coming from Thai Lancaster House, the amount of energy spent trying to save the self styled “Mister Teflon” could, and should, have been expended for the good of the Thai game.

We are now in the murky political stage of the impasse where FIFA goons try to save their man with election roll shenanigans a “rotten borough” would wince at. With frightening similarities, English politicians two centuries ago (and now if they could get away with it) bought and sold these rotten or “pocket” areas which, “had a very small electorate and could be used by a patron to gain undue and unrepresentative influence within the Football Association of Thailand” (the last four words are from memory.) A rotten borough had a tiny population, often small enough that voters could be personally bribed. For example, Old Sarum in Cambridgeshire had been a busy city but was later abandoned: despite this, it kept its two MPs; that’s one for every three and a half voters, whilst Manchester didn’t have a single Parliamentarian. Like an heirloom, these pocket boroughs were often handed down to sons, relations or friends. They were effectively controlled by a single person who owned most of the land. And, with no secret ballot, the landowner could evict residents who did not vote for the person he wanted.

With a petition to hold an election this month having gained enough signatures to be enacted, more press conferences cancelled than honoured by the FAT Head and his decision to hold the election at the end of September, he is clearly up to something. He will be down on bended knees to FIFA whilst garnering all his old school Thais who silently pull the strings behind the scenes and trying to divide his opposition. Despite torpedoing the Thai game, he may emerge from the wreckage still in control of a strategically located cash cow for his FIFA friends; surely the only reason everyone involved with various heated situations got burned whilst he was offered a flame proof suit.

So let’s imagine that post nuclear winter of Worawi retaining power. Let’s add that the term of office increases to four years and, once the sick bucket has been swilled out, what can we look forward to over the next half a decade? He will be feeling bruised and vengeful against fans, clubs who stood up to him and foreign journalists like Jesse Fink who dare to speak the truth. Whilst his close allies remain loyal (if silent due to the prevailing national mood) he will need to cut out all dissent from the increasingly powerful provincial clubs determined to have their voices heard. His first job will be, like with Manchester two centuries ago, to only allow clubs within two kilometres of Bangkok the right to vote. Additionally, any club that did not support him will be non voting members of the FAT, irrespective of their location.

The women’s game, largely overlooked by the FAT and successful as a result, will be brought increasingly under their shady umbrella. The women’s continued success will need to be halted as this embarrasses the Dear Leader with every tournament win achieved with minimal sponsorship and minute support.

The spread of English must be addressed. Increasingly, this marginal language is being heard at Thai games, more information is becoming available in it and the upcoming ASEAN Economic Community is rumoured to value it. Like satellite dishes in Pyongyang, this needs to be stopped. Too many English speakers do not practice Right Thinking and foreign people do not understand that the diving, time wasting and poor officiating is part of the Thai Way and must not be questioned. English on the back of players’ shirts, a process already endorsed by Manchester United no less, matchday programmes, announcements and websites promoting English information can easily be converted back to Thai to make football the sole reserve of Thai people.

Elections can cause friction and bad feeling, so they will halt once Worawi has been sworn in. This will create the stability for Thailand to reach the World Cup finals in the very near future. If this is not acceptable to fans, an annual election can be held. Although Worawi will be the only candidate, it will be a great way for people to show their support and get their voices heard.

The current blight on the Thai game of unregistered agents buzzing around post match changing rooms to offload naive foreign youngsters far from home will be halted. In its place, only members of the FAT will be allowed to act as agents. The language barrier won’t be an issue as no foreign players will be allowed to sign for Thai clubs.

Already trialled this summer, the Thai national team will opt out of FIFA registered games and only play big name touring clubs that are financed by large corporations. The only FIFA sanctioned games will be for the World Cup or ASEAN tournaments and they will also be sponsored. The Custard Cake Thailand team will be completely self financing and all profits will go to the continued development of the state of the ark Nong Jork centre of excellence.
So, don’t forget your sunglasses. The future is so bright if you put your faith in Worawi that Asian victories in the Peter Withe era will pale into insignificance when Bhutan and St Kitts are put to the sword.

Rene Desaeyere appointed head coach of Muang Thong United for a second time after 2010."There were some problems that prevented us from bringing him back in the past," Ronnarit said about Rene.
It leaves us with the question mark, why Muang Thong have sacked him after winning the TPL in 2011? We remeber the saying was (in 2011), Muang Thong wanted to hire a coach which can bring the club to the next level. hmm.

Bangkok Glass=0 V Buriram United=0 Match report.

A Point Earned and a Point Proved

There was no doubt that this was the match of the day as hundreds of fans thronged the concourses behind the stands of the Leo Stadium, including a noisy band of Muang Thong United fans who were presumably hoping to see a Bangkok Glass win that would put a dent in Buriram United’s title hopes and give the Twin Kirins a little more hope of retaining the Thai Premier League trophy. The bunnies were in great demand for photo opportunities and the enlarged West Stand had completely sold out. And this was an hour before kick-off!

I got myself a ticket in the upper tier of the South Stand and found a perch on the concrete terraces just below the first layer of clouds. There were very few spaces to be seen anywhere in the stadium, particularly in the away section of the North Stand, where the marauding hordes of visiting fans were packed in like sardines. The locals had clearly been looking forward to this and there would be very few latecomers for this one.

The man of the moment, Teerathep ‘Leesaw’ Winothai, was introduced the crowd as we were reminded that he had scored the winning goal for the Singha All Stars against Manchester United last weekend, and had also captained the winning team. The local fans didn’t need reminding as the golden boy of Thai football is, of course, the captain and pin-up star of Bangkok Glass. Nevertheless, he was greeted with rapturous applause.

All eyes and all lenses were on two others, however. Cameras were focussed on the Bangkok Glass coach, Attaphol Buspakom, or Coach Tak, as he is universally known, (who was dismissed from the Thunder Castle suddenly in mid-season by today’s opponents, despite a highly-successful record as coach), and his nemesis, Newin Chidchob, who had made that surprising decision. Newin clearly didn’t know what to do with himself as he meandered around the pitch in the warm-up, presumably trying to avoid any contact with his former employee and wary of the prospect of that awkward moment being caught on camera. Coach Tak, meanwhile, had his game face on and was in no mood for pre-match pleasantries.

Buriram showed their attacking intent from the kick-off and began with a three-man backline of Tanasak Srisai, Osmar Barba and Chitipat Tanklang with the two wing-backs, Theerathon Bunmathan and Anawin Jujeen pushed high up the pitch. This was a little puzzling as Bangkok Glass played 4-3-3 with the ball and 4-5-1 when defending. But as the game went on, the reasoning became clear. The two BG wingers, Leesaw and Flavien Michelini rarely stayed on their wings and frequently cut inside, while Leandro Dos Santos in centre-midfield was constantly bursting forward to join the attack, so a narrow defence would be best prepared to meet them and the two wing-backs would provide a first line of defence should the BG wingers attack from deep.

The system worked perfectly, despite Michelini frequently displaying his mesmorising array of skills. Time and again the crowd would gasp as he brilliantly beat one player with amazing skill, and then another, only to be foiled by a third. On the other side, Leesaw was similarly outnumbered and stifled, while the invisible centre-forward, Chatree Chimtalay was as ineffective and insignificant as always. To his credit, he got out of the way when his team-mates cut inside but that was his only effective contribution throughout the match.

Another benefit of the three-man defence was that it gave the visitors three lofty targets at corners and free-kicks, which were plentiful throughout the match, but despite Theerathon’s impressively accurate delivery, the impressive BG centre-back pairing of Goran Subara and Jose Mena stood firm and were up to the challenge, as was the keeper behind them, Narit Taweekul, who came and caught the ball under heavy pressure on several occasions.

While both teams showed attacking ambition in the first half, there were few clear scoring chances, such was the quality of the two defences. Bruno Herrero had the first opportunity after just two minutes when he shot narrowly wide from twelve metres for the visitors following an intricate series of passes in the box. Six minutes later, a looping header from a free-kick brought a theatrical leaping save out of Narit and the BG defence knew they were going to have a busy night. After 19 minutes, Mena had the clearest opportunity of the half when he lost his marker at a free-kick and headed narrowly wide from four metres as the home fans gasped and groaned. The majority of the action was concentrated near the home goal but the first half ended goalless with the two teams doing little wrong and simply cancelling each other out.

The visitors showed a little more intensity and some tactical adjustments in the second half. Their new centre-forward, Jesus Borracal, put himself about a lot more and his movement troubled the home defence, particularly when he used his height advantage in aerial duels with the full-backs. He combined well with Javier Patino and only the brilliance of Mena, Subara and Narit kept the pair at bay.

After 49 minutes, a Borracal flicked header near half-way sent Patino bursting through on the right and he ran into the box towards goal and struck a low shot under pressure which almost caught out Narit, who dived low to his right to smother the ball at the near post. Six minutes later, a long throw-in from the right resulted in some head tennis in the BG box before the ball fell to Suchao Nuchnum on the edge of the box but again his low shot was saved by the watchful Narit.

On 66 minutes, Patino wriggled past and behind the BG defence which had pushed up to the half-way line. He surged away and towards goal but was brought down from behind by the pacy Leandro as he reached the D. The whistle was blown and a free-kick was awarded and then a red card shown to the offending Brazilian for his match-saving foul. There was an outcry from home players and fans alike but it seemed to me to be an obvious case of a foul denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity. Patino had no reason to dive just short of the penalty area and would surely have expected to score had he taken another couple of strides.

An ultra-thin plastic beaker was thrown onto the pitch from the South Stand and the referee’s assistant took fright and ran onto the pitch and held up play. Leesaw pleaded with the furious home supporters for sanity but with little effect as the official returned to the touchline only to run away again as objects were thrown from the West Stand. Leesaw was forced to intervene again and calm was restored but, in truth, the officials were over-reacting and the danger to players and officials was minimal. The free-kick was eventually taken and struck the wall.

On 77 minutes, Patino was fouled once more on the edge of the box as he jinked past the home defence. Another beaker was thrown onto the pitch and hastily removed by a home player before the officials noticed. A well-rehearsed free-kick routine saw two visiting players run towards the ball at the same time from left and right then stop and argue as Suchao suddenly ran up and took the free-kick. The crowd gasped in horror but Narit was on his toes and wasn’t to be fooled as he dived low to smother the ball by the post.

On 81 minutes, Berrocal burst through on goal and sweetly struck a powerful low shot towards the near post from ten metres and then gasped in amazement as Narit dived brilliantly to his right and got a strong hand to the ball to parry it away and then leapt on it gleefully to widespread praise from his team-mates for saving the match. The Bangkok Glass keeper had an excellent game, and was my man of the match for his clutch of vital saves and his solid handling and kicking throughout the match.

Even with ten men, BG didn’t lack attacking ambition and they could have won the match in the closing minutes. Firstly, on 87 minutes, they broke down the right and the ball was crossed into the box where Leesaw was unmarked and in yards of space. He struck the ball sweetly first-time but his right-foot volley struck a stationary defender and went for a corner. Then, two minutes later, Korakod Wiriyaudomsiri struck a lovely curling left-foot shot over the wall from a free-kick twenty-five metres out and the crowd gasped as the keeper paused then dived to his left to make the save. So the match ended goalless, and for Coach Tak it was a point earned for the Glass Rabbits, and perhaps a point proved to his former employees.
