MATCH REPORT=BURIRAM UNITED=1 VS SUPHANBURI=1

The first five minutes saw Buriram looking the physically stronger team content to keep possession. But then, after 3 minutes, Dragon Boskovich crossed from the right after an excellent run and Bireme should have done much better than his fresh air shot with his left foot under no pressure in the six yard box. Buriram’s squad rotation after their exertion in Japan made their play rather disjointed in the early stages, allowing Suphanburi to grow in confidence. Teerathorn was trying to make inroads down the Suphan right, but he was being double teamed and pressurised early in possession to deny him momentum. Suphanburi’s Boskovich was becoming an increasing threat to the home side with his direct and physical approach, dropping deep to collect possession before taking on the Buriram defenders in foot races they looked uncomfortable with and uncertain about who to go to him.

Central midfield was becoming an increasingly positive option for the away team. Buriram’s first real sight of goal came after twenty two minutes when Gonzalez shot harmlessly over from the edge of the area and their first corner three minutes later was catching practice for Suphan’s keeper Kosin. A scramble in the Suphan box led to the game’s first yellow when a wild challenge from Pratum left Piroj badly shaken. A last ditch tackle from Buriram’s Osmar after his terrible clearance on twenty nine minutes kept things even, but Biuriram were struggling to get out of first gear whilst Suphan were targeting early crosses into the home box, sensing the increasing feeling of unease from the Buriram defenders.

On thirty six minutes Osmar thought he’d scored but his goal bound effort was diverted wide, but Buriram were now starting to get more time to probe the away defence as half time approached. The game’s second yellow came on forty two minutes after Asucheewa’s clumsy challenge on Chappuis and the half ended with a shockingly poor offside decision against the away team; an inexcusable error.

Buriram brought Anthony at the start of the second half to replace Anawin as Suphan performed one of the biggest huddles seen in the TPL before reforming to huddle once more before kick off. Buriram had a half chance soon after the restart when Teerathorn was allowed to cross for Gonzalez who should have done better than his tame header. The tempo was definitely increasing in the second forty five. Suphan were inches away from scoring after fifty three minutes when a sharp shot from Bireme was smartly saved at the front post by Sivaruck and a solid back post header from a free kick whistled over the home crossbar a minute later.

Then, on fifty six minutes, disaster struck for Buriram when a tame shot from Suchon on the edge of the box saw Sivaruk fall over and spoon it into his own net. Decha picked up a yellow for Suphanburi on sixty minutes for a robust challenge and Osmar was lucky to escape a similar fate soon after. A theatrical and poorly executed dive by Pratum on sixty three minutes was rewarded with a free kick on the edge of the Suphan area but justice was done when the free kick went tamely wide. But, from the resulting corner Pratum was rewarded for his theatrics by a goal directly from the corner spot. Now things were heating up nicely and Suphanburi’s Pichit’s yellow card was served with extra helpings of playground posturing from both sides.

On sixty nine minutes Suphan brought Jedsada on to shore up the midfield as the momentum began to swing the home side’s way. Suphan were starting to defend deeply, allowing the home defenders to venture forward more often and the away team’s time in possession began to dissipate. On seventy four minutes Buriram brought on Adisak for Kai. Suphan were forced to take off Mika with what looked like a hamstring problem, to be replaced by Supoj seconds later. Pichit’s was starting to develop an immense, physical performance for the away team, regularly putting his body on the line despite being on a yellow card. On eighty three minutes Bustos missed a golden opportunity when one on one with Kosin in the Suphan area, but the keeper smothered smartly. On eighty seven minutes Suphan  took off Bireme for the muscular Nikola. Carmelo went close in the final minute, but this was a battling performance from the TPL newcomers.

Man of the match. Boskovich: a constant threat to the home team and a strong physical focal point.
