NOK Air

I took Nok Air from Buriram to Don Maung (DMK), then onto BKK.  Here’s what to expect:

1.   At Buriram Airport, Nok Air seemed to operate manually.  You had to check-in, have them manually write up your boarding pass, manually give you a seat assignment (via cell phone connection), and check in bags.  Very disjointed.

2.  Just like PB Air go through security and wait for boarding call.  At issue here is you have to get rid of liquids (e.g., water), and none is for sale past security.  There is a water dispenser, not sure it works.  But a portable reusable bottle would be good to have.

3.  The plane has large overhead and under-seat area, if you have a medium backpack, it should fit.  But the seats, especially at the bulkheads can seem small to us non-Thais.

4.  They give you some food on the plane, a seafood roll and cup of water.  If you want more you have to buy from the cart (do not know the price).

5. The flying time is right at an hour.  Once you land at DMK the plane parks and you have to take a bus to baggage claim.

6. This was my 1st time to DMK, got through baggage claim and outside there is a taxi stand.  You go to the booth, tell them where you want to go, they assign a taxi.  There is a 50 baht fee added when the taxi drops you off to the displayed fare.

7. I had a connection to BKK, the Taxi fare was 310, + 50 baht (airport fee), and 70 baht in tolls.  I am sure there are cheaper ways, but this was easy.  It is about 40 km from DMK to BKK.

With my 1930 BKK connection, Nok Air worked great.  But most times the limited flights preclude it as an option.  But would take it again in the same circumstances.

It's quite unfortunate that the very fertile markets of Buriram-Surin have, essentially, no scheduled commercial air service - but for Thai Regional Airlines, which amounts a "bush-hopper" with limted flights. As history will prove, don't expect them to be around very long.
It wasn't too long that Isaan, and other regions of Thailand, were served properly. Be it mid-market or smaller-market. Today domestic airline service and connections are pathetic. Cut back and closures have seen a domino affect.

Cannot really blame the airlines. If the market is not nthere then they won't operate.

Doesn't help having  Buriram airport so remote from town!

Many of the regional airports seem to be so far from the actual city they are meant to serve,Although I live in Buriram Province the airport is around 140kms away,Korat is a lot closer at only 100kms,but with a bus ride into Bangkok only taking 3.5 hours,no long drive,no 1 hour check-in & around a tenth of the price its easy for me to choose

Both Solar Air and Nok Air fly daily to Roi-ET. This tells me a hell of a lot what the airlines thank of the market in the Buriram and Surin area.
