« on: November 30, 2012, 09:54:36 PM »
Hi Guys, im going to re roof my girlfriend house, its about a 90-100 sqm bungalow, near Non Din Daeng. does anybody have any ideas on cost of materials, and labor? don't mind paying for a good job, just don't want my legs pulled. any advise appreciated. i will be there by about the 10th December to try to sort it.

Far too vague a description.....so many types of roofs......Your biggest problem will be getting ripped off as you are a new farang in the area....You are in a minefield

thanks Nookie, its that fibro cement tile look a like sheets. i gather it will take 2 guys 2 to 3 days to remove old and replace new, TGF uncle who is a farmer has suggested he does the work for labor costs of 30,000b, and i buy the materials. is that reasonable?  its all because current roof has a few leaks.

Sounds about 10000 over the top.

Just had the village "sala" reroofed. Just over 100sqm for 22000 plus bits.

2 guys, working for 2/3 days for 30,000bt. Forget Uncle - he is fleecing you.

Villagers in your area would normally earn around 300bt/day Be generous and give them 500bt, then that's  1000bt/day for 3 days which comes out at 3000bt. 10% of what Uncle has suggested!!!

Fibre/cement roof sheets are around 50bt each. Count how many exist now and work out your likely costs. Screws for holding down each sheet are approx 3bt each.

Your girlfriend would be well aware of labour costs for 3 days. Ask her and see how honest she is with you.

Generally speaking, roofers will earn alot more. The "sala", which is the shelter type thing in the village, that was extended in our village was built by Thais for Thais. Most of the quotes were the same. All around 22000 for labour.

The tile price is about right.

All the villagers out my way receive the same daily rate for everything.  No reason to think it would be any different in Non Din Dang. Uncle is a farmer -not an experienced roofer.  3000bt is more than enough for 3 days.

That is over 2  months money for a government worker. Me thinks uncle over-estimates his value - or under-estimates the Falang!

Hi Speros, I'm doing the same job at the moment using the same sheeting for an area 70m sq. Using a 5 man team of locals at 300 Baht a day, The job will be done in 1 day subject to the weather. It sounds like you have been quoted way to high on labour IMHO. The sheeting cost me 13,000 baht and the bolts 1.8 baht a piece.

thanks everyone for the input, i made one mistake... wasn't Uncle (she talks to fast)..was local builder that wanted 30,000bt, she talked him down to 25,000 Baht...and she is continuing to look for other people and their "quotes".

Now that rice harvesting is complete there should be a good supply of villagers who could turn their hand to re-roofing. I am sure your gf or members of her family can find 2/3suitable locals

If you purchase your roofing materials from IQ in Buriram, I'm sure they could release 150 staff to give you a hand !!

Has anyone seen any store ANYWHERE with more staff just hanging around   ??

Certainly cannot grizzle about the lack of service !!
